New metal detecting show to air!

Can't wait to watch it!

Hell, I watch Metal Detecting vids on youtube all the time. Be nice to sit down at the couch and watch a T.V. show on it. Cool idea to me...I was about to go do it if y'all didn't. lol

I really think this is just a bad idea all around. One, they aren't the brightest people. They scratch every single coin they find it appears. And the show will just make it look extremely easy to go out and find old coins, which in many cases that is not true at all. If it becomes popular, the hobby is going to see a flood of new people with no clue about proper digging techniques come in and just destroy parks.

And seriously, how many episodes can they make and expect viewers to get excited about finding indian heads and mercury dimes? I love finding them, but I could care less about watching somebody else dig one over and over and I'm a big fan of detecting.

Spart, Tim had some novelty tokens made several years ago with the team ATC logo on them and the website. He burries them wherever we hunt so that people can find them later, The problem is that we hunt sites more that once and hate it when we dig up his planted coins. He gives away T-shirts and other such things when people find them and e-mail him.

I think you said it "Planted Coins".. At least for me seeding an area with finds leaves the whole show suspect. :icon_scratch: What is to say there are not better finds actually planted :dontknow: I guess when the going gets slow they can always hit an area for a good "find" :laughing7:

Besides, I can't watch it. I just seeded my lawn, so I'll watch the grass grow :tongue3:

I'm always happy for people who work hard to reach a personal goal, so congrats to them. Having said that, for those who do the detecting thing all the time and know what it's all about it probably won't hold their interest too long. On the other hand, metal detecting is a fast growing market with lots of interest so for those who want, or need, to be inspired and educated it will probably go over pretty well for quite a while. :dontknow:

Like i said i have there videos and like them.................. But a show like this will have every Tom Dick & Harry buying a detector. So no matter were you hunt inland or beach you will find so many there with detector's ..... You will just want to turn around and go home.......The only one's to make out from this show will be the Company's that make detector's and the dealer's........ My self i am sick of all reality shows.... I am sick of ...Storage hunting shows..... of pawn Shop shows ... Of Repo shows ... even sick of ... Gold Rush Ak. .......... He!! some that was bidding on storage lockers don't do that any more ..... Why .... Because so many people show up and push the bidding so high it is hard to get a storage unit for a good price........ Mark my words this show will only hurt us........

We both agree, if you don't show both sides, which includes days when all you find is junk, people will be running to get detectors and start digging anywhere and where ever they want, leaving holes, garbage, needles, glass, hooks and all the dangerous crap behind. There are days when the weather is crappy, you get stupid questions from people (Can you really find gold with that?) or you get those who think it's their job to run you off cause your "Destroying" the ground, never mind that less than a foot away is FiFi's contribution to the grass, sitting there steaming away! :dontknow: So if you do a show like this, show the bad with the good, and show how to dig plugs, if we could have a nickel for every guy we have seen, out there using screwdrivers to dig holes, or they dig huge holes, scan and leave! :BangHead: But for goodness sake DON'T SHOW JUST GOOD, IT WILL LEAD TO TROUBLE!

Yup, these shows do nothing but hurt the individuals that do these kinds of things for a hobby or a living. People see them all as easy roads to riches.

One of the few positives right now is that I'm in a local club and have a decent amount of influence at times and can hopefully help educate the potential flood of new "treasure hunters" that might spawn from this show. But I imagine most will not care enough to look up the local club and instead just head to the local 1995 park and start digging in hopes of finding gold jewelry and old coins.

And in the garage sale forum there is a person posting that is trying to get people to send in videos about themselves for a new show. Just going to hurt us all in the end.

American Pickers, Pawn Stars and Storage Wars, etc. have let's just say "changed things" and I'll leave it at that.

I will certainly watch the show but I certainly hope the local parks don't suddenly start looking like they've been carpet bombed because it would definitely "change things".

Dont know if you know - Spike Tv has one coming out called American Diggers

But this is the age of distraction. I think if there was a large influx of people buying metal detectors it would only lead to a large number of used metal detectors for sale with in a few months.

as long as it reality, where they come across pot plants, moon shine stills, people skinny dippin, homeless people livin in the woods, that get a lil mean when ya come pokin around, hunting down town sites where ya get mugged and knocked in the head, going to the beach and digging 6 cases of empty beer cans, people talkin trash to ya,gettin the cops called on ya,walkin 6-10 miles back in the woods to find nothing, buying plenty of bug spray to fight off the gnats and skeeters and black flys, toteing a big shovel back in the woods to keep the big critters off ya...and by all means ya'll come down south cause ya got a mighty pretty mouth.............ya'll got that on there and hell,i'll be your biggest fan rocky

The show is just plain fun, Its about the fun that we have in this great hobby, Often we talk about getting people interested in the hobby and we talk about how great it is that we got some young person into it but then we start saying that we dont want people to get into the hobby. How many countless people have I talked to that are very interested in the hobby but tell me that they have a detector in their closet that they havent used for more than an hour. I dont think that there is going to be a rush of people to find that 2.00 dime. The show is about digging up cool things and having fun while doing it. There is an entire network devoted to hunting and fishing but I dont see the lakes and rivers being overburdened with people. I dont know how far it will go but it will be fun to watch. I expect that there will be people that like it and people who hate it, its the nature of the beast. Sparta I assure you that there is no planted finds, the tokens are anacondatreasure tokens that we make and burry for future generations. we just happen to dig them up sometimes and laugh when one of us digs it up. for those who decide to watch the show I hope it is entertaining.

Can't be worse than the Alaskan Gold diggers reality show.

I think I would be scared to know what is on your DVR.

Well, I'll have it on, to see how it goes.

To the naysayers, I have to say - how many hundreds of times did GPAA do shows - with ole Buzzard detecting, or panning - and then Tom (I'd say and Perry, too, but, he doesn't do the "all the time" thing).

I cannot count how many times I've watched Tom fall and break his lights, his detectors, his butt, crack his head, trip over his own boots, and almost got him and his wife (the lady behind the camera) asphyxiated, lost and/or killed.

But, we kept on watching.

Good Luck!!!

Beth
