New metal detecting show to air!

Well, I'll have it on, to see how it goes.

To the naysayers, I have to say - how many hundreds of times did GPAA do shows - with ole Buzzard detecting, or panning - and then Tom (I'd say and Perry, too, but, he doesn't do the "all the time" thing).

I cannot count how many times I've watched Tom fall and break his lights, his detectors, his butt, crack his head, trip over his own boots, and almost got him and his wife (the lady behind the camera) asphyxiated, lost and/or killed.

But, we kept on watching.

Good Luck!!!

Beth

I also like to see Tom dig Nails, and say so :icon_thumleft:

I also Liked the scene where he & his wife were supposedly
shot at too. but still wonder if it was someone
target shooting in the Distance, that didn't even know they were there.

I Know when I'm out hunting & hear gunshots,
I don't turn tail & Run like they did :tongue3:
I Just think "humm gun shot. someones shootin' "

I do hope this show reaches our shore.

Perhaps the stars on the show can discuss on the proper MDing etiquette. I'm pretty sure a viewer will be interested in picking-up a metal detector after watching an episode or two.

That's how i got into this hobby! :laughing7:

The show is just plain fun, Its about the fun that we have in this great hobby, Often we talk about getting people interested in the hobby and we talk about how great it is that we got some young person into it but then we start saying that we dont want people to get into the hobby. How many countless people have I talked to that are very interested in the hobby but tell me that they have a detector in their closet that they havent used for more than an hour. I dont think that there is going to be a rush of people to find that 2.00 dime. The show is about digging up cool things and having fun while doing it. There is an entire network devoted to hunting and fishing but I dont see the lakes and rivers being overburdened with people. I dont know how far it will go but it will be fun to watch. I expect that there will be people that like it and people who hate it, its the nature of the beast. Sparta I assure you that there is no planted finds, the tokens are anacondatreasure tokens that we make and burry for future generations. we just happen to dig them up sometimes and laugh when one of us digs it up. for those who decide to watch the show I hope it is entertaining.
Like i said i have your videos and enjoy them and even have one of your T shirts .... You 2 make good videos .. So i know it will be a good show ... I just hope it will not get a bunch of jerks out there with detectors........And all i ever saw in the videos was Garrett detectors what is this i see you now use Minelab ?????

Excited to check it out! Montanagold is right, these guys are just plain fun and having a good time digging, quirky and funny. A show like this may increase the popularity of detecting, but isn't there a time where we ALL were noobies? Are we all to act selfish and hope that others don't join and enjoy our hobby?

This is very different and I hope you are able to see that. This is a hobby where you can find something one minute and take it to the pawn shop for instant cash the next minute. This is an hobby that shows people finding silver and gold in a time where are country / the world is in economic duress and people are hoarding silver and gold because of it.

Sure, it's fun when you are the one behind the camera getting paid for it. It's completely different when this is your hobby that could potentially disappear because of a silly show with some goofy characters make it popular enough that john q. public thinks it's easy and goes out and turns our parks into a big mess. And then miss jane doe complains to the city over and over to the point that it gets banned in the city. To think this isn't a potential reality of a show like this is just ignorance on your part. Enjoy your 15 minutes. I really hope shows like this don't destroy our hobby.

In this instance, yes.

I hope its more than 15 minutes for team ATC, but mostly just a fun ride. There have been people out there that wright books and articles for money and we treat them like gods. Its not rocket science its just a hobby and I'm sure people won't be running out to spend their hard earned cash on a detector to go find some change. I don't hunt public areas, I take the time to investigate sites and get permission. those who hunt public areas should already be worried about people taking their spot. Its entertainment not some private club for old guys.

You are so right about them treating these one's that write books like Gods and those guys make some big bucks with those books................... I bought one a while back and that was the first and last book i bought........... And your right it is not rocket science........... All you need is your instruction manual , practise , & some common sense ...... I still see them here say if you have this brand & model of detector you have better get this book so you can learn how to use it.....

And I'm sure people won't be running to the next storage unit auction in hopes of finding a suitcase full of gold and silver.... oh wait...

This is America. Everybody is always looking for the next get rich quick scheme, whether or not it is actually a realistic endeavor. They will see how "easy" it is to go out and find old silver coins that are worth X amount of dollars. While I would love to have a show about detecting to watch every week, I think it's an awful idea for the hobby as a whole.

And you say you research old sites. You are in Montana where the population is VERY small. You probably don't have a clue what it's like to detect in the rest of the country. You can think you've found an untapped resource after reading some obscure line in an old book. Then you go ask for permission and get told people have been detecting there for the past 30 years.

Now picture the hobby with double the people detecting. Old coins / relics are finite. Once they are gone, they are gone and not being replenished. At some point, detecting just won't be much fun anymore if old stuff is what you are after. And the more people in the hobby, the worse it is for the rest of us that this is a PASSION for and not just some way to make some extra money.

Most of these books are a joke. I have several of them and they are pretty useless if you ask me. Heck, I'm even quoted in one of them (and somehow my ACTUAL quote got really jumbled up once it was posted in the book and it doesn't even make sense to me after I read it in the book, haha).

People treat some forum posters like gods as well. And I just keep my mouth shut about the information I know about them. One poster on the site has posted finds from, ummm, locations that would get him arrested if found out about. But everybody still treats him like a god that can do no wrong.

Dont know if you know - Spike Tv has one coming out called American Diggers
Yes i saw that it is to be on .. Tuesday March 20.. at 10 PM........ I will have to watch to see what it is like..

There's one good thing to look forward to.....

Think of all the gently used detectors that will be for sale in a year!

Sure, the masses may run out and buy a detector after watching this show but it won't take long before reality sets in. :D

It's gotta be in your blood!

Let's hope the overall impact is minimal and the hobby survives.

That sounds great in theory. Until you realize that the detectors being bought from a show like this will be whatever is used on the show and whatever machines are the cheapest.

So, based on their vids, we will see lots of Garrett Machines. I sure don't want one of those. Well, not their land machines, at least. I see a future of ACE 250s being unloaded on craigslist for a while and I'm thinking I should invest some cash into Woodland Detectors, haha.

For the price those AT Pros are a very good buy.... They will keep up with other detectors.....

My viewing of these guys is very limited, but it did look like they were using the old green garrets that can't really keep up with any other detectors if you ask me. Heck, I think the ACE 250 is equal or better than those green ones. And my gut tells me that new people will see the $600 (or whatever price it is?) price tag on the AT Pros and opt for the Ace 250s because they are more affordable and have a pretty screen. But a good dealer will probably do the upsell in hopes of selling some AT Pros as well.

Will be a good time for Garrett, either way, though.

The team has experiance with Garrett and whites as well as my detector the SE, all last year I used the SE and the guys used the AT pro and lets just say I had to get one as my main detector. Truth is people are either going to love or hate the show, it is what it is. ATC doesent make a living detecting and we all have full time jobs that we have to take vacation to film, theres no big money contracts or free equipment its just a fun adventure and we hope that everyone will enjoy some part of it even if it beats watching another repo show.

If your show is being aired by NGC and you didn't get a good payday out of it... you should recheck that. Hope you didn't give away something that's worth something. As a TV guy I can tell you that if five figures didn't show up in the mail you got screwed out the door.

Well there is only the two episodes so far and that wouldn't even add up to 2 figures if there was a season:o)
