Since I have been back in town I noticed that the member participation is lower than usual. At the time of this writing, we have 5 members and 40 guests viewing this entire forum. :o:icon_scratch: And it has been this way for several days. It seems there is little more than a handfull of members participating at one time. :3some: This has me worried. :( Are members losing interest in the What Is It forum? What can we do to increase participation?

I'm still here, but with all that I have learned on this forum, I am getting pretty good at I.D.'ing my own mysteries :hello:. Still can't figure out my greatest treasure yet (my wife). I have a bunch of stuff from years past that I don't know what they are, do you want me to post them here and let ya all have a crack at them? I had a series of posts in the "My best Finds" forum that I called, " Blast from the Past, " that was fun :hello2:. I still lurk, but even that has been hard to do this year, what with my mother being severely ill most of the year, and her recent passing. My mother told me (I think she was joking at the time) because she never says this kind of stuff when my wife's around, that she will leave me more than enough to buy all new equipment, and a new abode, and have some left :headbang. I think mom, knew what a gold diggin' family I married into, I have no payments, (house, car, credit, etc.) just run of the mill utilities. But my wife is trying to tell me already what I can't do with my inheritance. Dang....I did it again, got off topic, sorry. Anyway, when I start getting back out hunting (after the big freeze) maybe I'll find more unexplainable's. Wish I could lay claim to something, such as those dam piggnuts or that Alaskan can opener, timer thingy........NGE

That's right, as newbies we learn from posted junk.

are you taking the piss? >:( as i can remember when i first started detecting the first few weeks i was digging lumps of metal and shotgun shells which i never had a clue what they where till i posted them on the net to get ID and was told its only junk so i learnt from that whilst detecting and thats how you learn from whats junk and not junk!
The US folk take a little getting use to  He was agreeing with you. They don't do sarcasm like us :laughing9:
Sorry Jimmy, I was agreeing with you as Crusader said, and I have taking some piss for posting junk. But the Tnet poster was right, it was just junk, so now I know. I suppose that I posted the pics in hasty excitement of having something to post, but thinking back on that post, I realize that there were no markings on the pieces to help identify it so I couldn't expect help with it. YD

The 'What is it?' forum IMHO gotta be one of the greatest forum on the internet :hello2: Then again being a metal detectorist I could be considered bias ;D I've seen many great ID's since I joined :notworthy: and I'm sure there will be many more to come :read2:

Don't think there's a loss of forum interest, but maybe forum members are getting busier and it's an early sign of improvement in the overall economy :dontknow:

Added: 13/24 forum members :sunny: ;D

I see there are still some great guys here like Crusader, BigCypresshunter etc.... that is encouraging.... Bev, I have not seen you around, but yes it is very annoying when you write into a topic only to get blasted...... What has happened to my friend PBK? He is a walking encyclopedia, and I remember him always giving the guys great advice and always praising people..... These are the people we want here, not trouble makers.....
I was always trying to praise people on their finds, and loved to be on this forum and seeing all the different treasures and the stories that went with them. I wrote in another friends topic (the Seeker) and was sent a PM by another user who swore at me and called me all sorts..... Did I report this? No I just packed my bags and left..... Funny, but that person is no longer on here either.

Anyway, I will try and get back into this Forum and see what happens...... Thanks everyone.

Welcome back :icon_thumright:

PBK left several months ago. Can't remember why, but I don't think it was under bad terms just other committments (I think)

Newbies and Guests are welcome to respond. Maybe I can get some insight from an outsider. Thanks.

This is my favorite forum and I hate to see it stagnate.
Perhaps it might be something to do with the quality of finds, that's posted, some items seem pretty mundane sometimes, and not worth research :-\

SS

I can maybe agree with some finds but I think the reason why people post is because they dont know what they have. I learned so much from reading this forum which has prevented me from posting some "what is its" in the future.

Correct, not under bad terms, rather other commitments. He was a huge resource here. :icon_thumright: PBK's farewell:

Hey BigC....Always a pleasure to see your posts… While this always was one of my favorite sections here…I rarely was helpful in IDing much..It’s appropriate that I probably won’t be much help in answering your question either… ;D

Even though I don’t consider myself an old timer…I do remember some of the old regulars that were here when I joined Tnet…There’s a ton of folks I can think of that use to post here all the time…and not just in this section of Tnet…It was great to get to "know" a bunch of them and I truly felt like part of a family here…

Tnet was always my first stop when I hopped on the net…When I had a question about something(not just metal detecting)…I came here to ask it….When I wanted to vent or rant…I came here to do it…When I wanted to share my pictures…I came here to post them…And when I was sitting around doing nothing at night..I’d come here to chat…I figured as long as Tnet was around…I’d be around too…as an active member…

I can’t say anything drastic has occurred in my life to cause a loss of interest in posting on Tnet…And unlike some folks…I was never bothered by the bickering and fighting that would go on sometimes..I kind of like that this place has so much variety.....I guess life just has a way of steering some of us off in different directions…

I still try to maintain some contact here…I can say that a good portion of the people I got to know here aren’t around much either anymore…What’s good is…I see lots of "new " active members that seem to have formed the same kind of bond I felt I had here at one time….

Regardless…Just because your interaction with someone or some group isn’t life-long or forever…doesn’t mean they weren’t valued, appreciated or thought about….even years later …I look at interests and friendships as small parts of life’s journey….If they do last "forever"…that’s great…If they don’t…. that’s OK too…

I’m not sure that my long reply even is relevant to your post…but I figured you wouldn’t mind ..Heck…it would be nice if a few other of the MIAs stopped by and said hey…..

I’ll still be stopping by…Who knows…Maybe I’ll be back some day as a "regular"….Until then…keep a light on….

Welcome back pgill! :hello: I've been absent myself for several months and I'm still very new on Tnet. Except for just recents posts and reading posts, my last post was replying to birthday wishes from some of the great people here. My absents wasn't due to being angry or fustration, but just being busy with other things besides metal detecting. pgill, it takes good people like you, bch and countless others that keeps a forum in good shape. So Tnet will prevail and continue because of people like you. Happy Hunting and we'll meet again on Tnet.

I noticed the same thing , I have been a member on here for awhile now and noticed a trend and wanted to voice my opinion about and just in this forum but in all forums . I cant tell you how many times I have seen a newby on here or anyone for that matter who found something and the post sat for days and not one single comment on there post . That in it self is enough to make anyone not want to come back to TNET that is a very dicouraging exspecially for a newby, when there finds go un noticed and not recognized and commended even if its something small . I used to post everything I found just to share it and join in on the forum and check out any advice I was given on something I found that I didnt know what it was but back about 6 months ago I had a few post that sat for days without even as much as a comment so I removed my post . So just wanted to add my two cents in on this forum problem . I do realize this year has been a good year for gold and silver finds and CW finds and some very awesome discovery's more so than in the past few years ,but hey we should all chime in and let each person know there doing well and atleast say good job when someone posts on TNET .

And prime example , I just looked through the post and there were 3 so far that have been on here for weeks and not one single comment so I commented and said good job ... and this is the case for alot of the forums on here .. so if you see a post with 0 comments click on and say hey cool find or something show so incouragement to every person . We are all on here for a reason , to show our finds and to be as a group since we all have one thing in common , we are the die hards that endure the weather and terrain in search of burried treasure even if it is in the small form of one single penny !

:hello:

I am a newbie to the forum and metal detecting. When I get something that I don't know what it is and I hang onto it, sure I will be putting it on this board.

I have no idea about the past miseries of this board, but as of now it seems ok to me lol

I truly think that "times just change" nothing stays the same

even old members have private reasons to post less etc....and new members like me when I get my detecting into full stride will be adding to the What is It board. Cause I have to say, I don't have a clue about many of the iron stuff etc I will be digging up. I sure am not a button expert, or "anything" expert lol

I truly love this forum and I haven't seen the nasty side yet that was mentioned, and I hope I dont...yikes----but with every forum on the net this kind of thing happens and you just have to work around it sometimes.

I sure agree with IfoundIt----a new person posts someone should be responding....cause without some interaction that poster won't be coming back. Again, this happens on all forums also....so interact people and it keeps a board alive.

If I see any posts with no response, Ill try to post. Sometimes the picture is of such poor quality that we cant begin to ID it or maybe we just dont know what it is.
