Hello everyone,

I found a silver charm or medal MDing in the beach, it looks religious it has a right foot with wings, maybe masonic???
in the back it has the word "sterling" and under it, it has some initials but it is to hard to read, maybe "HNY" or "HRY" the "H" is the only letter you can read clearly.

Does any one know when they started marking silver with the word sterling?????

I think it is very old, found on a beach next to a wreck.

I am still on my hunting trip i will get home tomorrow and will post pics.

Best,

Chagy..........

Got the pics, ENJOY!!!!!!

Here are some sport medals related to Hermes and Mercury. The one that I found its to small to be a medal I think is more like a charm(good luck charm) or (protection Charm).

These are Greek temples, as you can see very similar to the medal, The masons also build their entrances similar to the Greek temples.

This is most definately a Track and Field medal for Running. Probably from the 1920's-1930's. The mark on the bottom is definately a makers mark and is probably a Danish maker. It looked like "HJCC" or "HJCO" to me and I found several makers like "Hans Jensen and Co" of Copenhagen, who manufactured from 1899-1937.

There is no doubt, this is a medal for running!

Good Luck,

Your totally off base with this idea. The current freemasons base their buildings on the belief of what King Solomons temple was believed to be built like. I can not go further into the details without devulging secrets, but rest assured that the way we build our buildings has nothing to do with any greek influences.

The reason I said CHAINSAW is because it is what we use to say back in my CT days of the Navy. If we would wonder astray from the topic, or IF WE WOULD CONTINUOUSLY GO ON AND ON about something that was not correct, someone would yell something totally off subject.

After seeing the object cleaned up and sized, I can say without a doubt in my mind that it is simply a fashion jewelry piece that was made for someone who ran or did track and field. I am 99% positive that it had something to do with track and field, and 110% positive that it had absolutely nothing to do with freemasonry, today or yesterday, nor do I believe it had anything to do any other branch of freemasonry.

However, it is very obvious that you want it to be a freemason piece. If that is the case I christian your mediallion the foot of the holy saint john, it is to be worn by all traveling men who have no shoes in 3rd district of north carolina. Now you can tell everyone it is a masonic piece. Good luck.

The winged foot has long been recognized as the symbol for Running and the pursuit of Speed. This medal was most likely attched to a ribbon that was pinned on like the ribbons on a military uniform.

I would have to reiterate what cryptodave has said, there is absolutely no Masonic influence in this medal!

I think the ultimate goal would be to find out when or who this was manufactured for and help shed some light on how it came to rest on the beaches of the Treasure Coast!

Good Luck,

Google HJC silversmiths.

The first hit makes reference to HJC initials. A company Ball Black and Adams designed.

Could not take it any further than that.

Good Luck

Robert's right! It's a stock (generic) amateur/school track medal, and I strongly suspect that the "H. J..." mark is that of the Herff Jones Co., a major supplier of school medals, rings, yearbooks, etc. since 1920. The style of this medal suggests that it dates c. 1930's-50's. Herff Jones link:

I agree, Gypsy. However, Herff Jones has also used "H. J." marks, as indicated in the JCK (Jeweler's Circular-Keystone) Brand Name Trademark Guide.

Its erie what happens when you get the right people working on this! That medal is a very very strong resemblance to the one in question, and the size appears to be about right also.

Thanks Gypsy, PBK, Angelo and Robert for getting this back into reality and not the evil masonic illuminati world domination realm.

I dont WANT IT TO BE MASONIC, its just an idea. It could be a sports related medal, but nobody knows for sure, we are getting close but no match yet.
here are a masonic temples and a masonic building. You tell me if the entrance is not similar to the Greek temples.

My uncle has been a mason for 20 years he showed it to some brothers of the lodge in Brazil they all agreed its masonic related to Hermes/Mercury.

Geesh You would think that with all the brains that have been working on this since it started that we could have came up with one solid picture that clearly identifies it!

From the begining Cyn said Art Deco..., I do see the greek temple design and Now I wonder if it could have been a running medal for a Greek sorority or fraternity Chapter.....I have as well as the rest of you ,searched everywhere for this ....although PBK probally has it correct on the hallmark design...but then that should give us the next clue to what year.....

Anyway this has been a fun and interesting thread!
