Hello everyone,

I found a silver charm or medal MDing in the beach, it looks religious it has a right foot with wings, maybe masonic???
in the back it has the word "sterling" and under it, it has some initials but it is to hard to read, maybe "HNY" or "HRY" the "H" is the only letter you can read clearly.

Does any one know when they started marking silver with the word sterling?????

I think it is very old, found on a beach next to a wreck.

I am still on my hunting trip i will get home tomorrow and will post pics.

Best,

Chagy..........

Got the pics, ENJOY!!!!!!

[/quote]Yes it is. It may have been lost by one of the first residents to swim at that beach, as few pepole lived there. There must have only been one school in the area.

Yep, one school, St. Mary's. ;D

How old is St. Mary's? Is it near Wabasso?

I just placed a bid for 21.00 on it, lets see what happens, now we will find out if someone else is interested. Sometimes people are interested in an item but they don't bid if no one else has to get it at a low price. Most of the stuff in my garage I got from ebay I am kind of an expert on these bids.

Best,

Chagy..........

See how this entire thread went ....from one end of the spectrum to the other....and what a history lesson we all got on the ride ....You are correct.....It sounded and waddled and quacked....but without that elusive photo of the duck...we just couldn't call it a day!

Hey big......I was kidding about St. Mary's being the only school. It was just some humor to go with my saying it was a religious medal all along.....get it??? C'mon.....get it??...oh well, I thought it was slightly humorous. Been a fun thread. The Masons of the world can relax, no secrets were discovered. ;D

OK!!! I got the twin to my DUCK....lol.... It was made by Herff Jones they send me a catalog to see the new model of the medal. They said that it must be from 1920 to 1940s, it was made in the original factory that it was closed in the 40s and non of the original employers are with the company.

Best,

Chagy......

Diving Doc,
Here is a question that I feel has never been asked on this forum before.
When I was in Sierra Leone West Africa in 1991 I talked with several fisherman about shipwrecks off their coast. Everyone told me there were some very old ship wrecks scattered off their coast.
NO ONE has ever researched these wrecks as far as I know. Freetown was a slave center at one time and was in business in the 1700,s.
This is also where the Hurricanes start.
I think it may be worth some looking into-what do you think?

Not sure boys...but this needs to be started on an entire new topic....has nothing to do with this thread.

Good Article on John Davis for your questions.
