Hello everyone,

I found a silver charm or medal MDing in the beach, it looks religious it has a right foot with wings, maybe masonic???
in the back it has the word "sterling" and under it, it has some initials but it is to hard to read, maybe "HNY" or "HRY" the "H" is the only letter you can read clearly.

Does any one know when they started marking silver with the word sterling?????

I think it is very old, found on a beach next to a wreck.

I am still on my hunting trip i will get home tomorrow and will post pics.

Best,

Chagy..........

Got the pics, ENJOY!!!!!!

This might be going in an entirely different direction...but with the Mercury/Hermes reference , Could it be some type of Messenger symbol..."on winged feet" etc or medal for messenger services award? Or Dianna has reference to pearly wings on her feet as she danced around the moon?

Just look at it guys... The design work just SCREAMS art deco. I'm 99.99% positive the time period is sometime in the 50s... I'm also 97% positive that is has absolutely nothing to do with US freemasons nor their overseas counterparts...

My suggestion is to have someone do some professional cleaning on it to find out what the words that are typed on it are. After looking at it closely, I think it very well could be:
1. Some sort of maker's mark/initials
2. initials of the person who it was awarded to.
If we could determine what the lettering is, it would help tremendously in discovering what it was used for.

My guess is it is from something obscure or foreign, and you will never find out what it really was for. Enjoy the piece of unknown history.

Check the history of Treasure Beach in the 50's might help. Not many people lived there at that time.

I don't know how I missed that it was a foot with wings, I thought it was a bird. Disregard my earlier posts, that's a track & field medal.

That is close Quinn.
Batch, that 1929 medal is even closer. That could be an exact match.

Hello everyone,

I think its masonic, related to Hermes, I also think it was special made for an important messenger and it was hanging form his neck for protection.
this thing is 3/4 of an inch by 1/2 an inch. I believe its from the 1800s and rare. If its from the 1900s and common we should be able to find the exact math.

This seems to be the exact same foot w/wings on a different medal.

What ya think? I'll keep looking for an exact match on the shape of the medal.

HH!

Chagy, Nobody said your piece, or this 1929 museum piece is common. Something on those beaches in 1929 would be rare, few lived there, although it could be from a shipwreck. I think it couldnt hurt sending pic in an e-mail to the Detroit Historical Museum and Historical Society.
Good Luck
Keep searching.

Niiiiiice. 8) It is nice to have before and after pics. You have a better look at it, but from my view it almost looks like HJP.
Mabe Cyn (flea) will blow it up for us.
I would guess from a shipwreck. Check the history of that beach and you might find there is not much as far as tourists or beachgoers.

Take a look at the medals on this pic. One of them is similar in shape to yours.
