Don't know how to post picture.

easy way is to (down load ) put it someplace like Photo bucket or a similar place that does hosting for personal photos. then simply do a copy of the IMG file location and paste it here...
there is an Icon at the top of the reply box of a picture frame, click on that and paste the location there....

I wonder of Dusted ever thought this thread would go into a runaway state as it has, I have seriously enjoyed it every since that day :)

Hi All, Have been reading this thread and am very new to both prospecting and this board. This is the best! I have a question if anyone can answer it. Is gold found in biotite gneiss or actinolite schist? Thank you so much for any help!

hey i got these from a mountain in honduras. what do i have

Found this volcanic rock and it is full of amazing color. This rock happens to be full of some sort of purple mineral. I want to say Amethyst, but it's probably wishful thinking. In other samples Of the same type of rock I found a greenish-blue color, I am assuming is copper. This was found right next to an old-closed prospecting claim that reported a finding of copper, iron, etc. Any help on Identifying this rock would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

To me it looks like Bornite. This would explain the copper mineralization found nearby and the purple color as well as iridescence. It could also be another copper sulfide coating like Covellite but without additional closer pictures, I cannot be sure. I am not sure of the matrix rock either but I am thinking it is something like an iron stained microcrystalline quartz. There is some banding near the middle toward the bottom which make it seem BIF like or Agate like. The blue greenish color you are mentioning and this copper sulfides seemingly in this specimen are leading me to believe you were seeing Malachite and Azurite in other pieces of rock nearby.

Hey I am new here to this site and um I just want to know what this rock is I found in my yard while digging
its driving me crazy, thanks. IMAG0024.JPGIMAG0025.JPG

Based on the two pictures and what appears to be conchoidal fractures, I would say that is slag glass. It is possible it is obsidian but I doubt it. Close up pictures may help in identification or a general idea of where you live or are located.

I live in northern California near Mount Diablo, here is the best close up shots I could get.

Thanks for the help I just want to know if its junk or not, I think it looks cool.
