Got A Rock you Want Identified? Post it here! gimme a good picture or 3 or 4!

Hi everyone.

We were searching in the forest and found what we assume to be bomb crater (I'm in Germany) yesterday and found a few pieces of iron around it. Some pieces were definitely iron but others seemed to be rocks. They were all picked up by the metal detector as iron.

The first picture shows a rock that is different than the rest. Lighter and somewhat black in color.

The next shows the other rocks --

Any idea what these could be that would make a metal detector go crazy?

Lead ore with silver in it... would be my guess... been finding alot of it my self in Cerillos nm

These are some samples I have found in the mountains where I go hiking I know most of it is pyrite haven't tried crushing to pan it yet.. What do you think it is? I'm new at the testing samples and stuff just got my first gold pan in the mail lol thx for your help

Sulfide .. Pyrite gold Silver and maybe a silver arsenic telluride! nice where did you (APPROX) find it?

thanks m8..!

lol...I slabbed it out on my antique Hillquest...
turns out the colors are hiding a nugget of copper...was standing there thinking I needed a new blade...what is taking this cut so long???
I will get some new photos of the specimen...I want to polish out one piece to show the metal deposit at the center of this piece.
I have been dealing in this type of stone since I was a child...love those blue stones, will not bend over to pick up gold...but climb wicked cliffs to get at copper compounds?

Found with metal detector on farm in pickaway county, Circleville, Ohio. Magnet will hold up small rocks (magnet in picture) small iron does not stick to rock so it is not magnetic itself. Thin partial layered areas that appear to have been hot. Not light yet not real heavy= tweener :) Large piece on top of the ground and smaller ones in earth below. Thanks!

seeing some Pyrite in it... Iron Ferrite.. could be just enough to get a rare earth magnet to stick to it..

Found some more Skarn Dusted you said I should find some with bigger crystals are these big enough? some of it almost looks black but its not its a deep green. ( gosh skarn it).PB231496.JPGPB231500.JPGPB231504.JPGPB231506.JPGPB231520.JPG

Dusted4Y you the man enjoy your posts Are these iron stainded rocks ?

yes and no.. they actually look to be "rotting" or decomposing from the inside out,, Alot of rock like this is kicked up with a ton of Iron in them and as they weather they exude rust. as for these i dont believe the rust was absorbed by the rock.. but more over they are exuding it from within.. one way to tell would be to cut them in 1/2 with a tile saw.. makes for a fun way to see where you cant and give you great insight into the rock formation your looking at!

yes nice size the clarity was compromised by the crushing of the pocket.. but if you were to clean off the matrix you may find some really nice ones.. also start loking for a pocket slowly and carefully an un crushed pocket can litterally yield up specimens worth millions of dollars.

Dustedyou I found this rock next to the quartz vein I been working, been wanting to show it to you to get your input. Is this fluorite in it ? It sparkles all over. Front ,back sides top and in one picture can see the back in the mirror behind it.Crystal rock 002.JPGCrystal rock 008.JPGCrystal rock 010.JPG This rock probably weighs 20 pounds. Since I posted this rock I have ruled out Fluorite Dustedyou because can't scratch it with a knife, maybe it's olivine as there is a lot of Magnesium and iron where I found it and the sparkles in is is more sparkle than quartz. Thanks.
