In a couple of the pics it shows after I cut a corner off with the chop saw. It's very heavy.

However, it doesn't read like silver or lead on the metal detector if that means anything to you.

I found these in central Texas near Pearsall. I have seen some photos on the internet that cause me to think they are Tektites. They look like they were formed by some sort of molten process. Anyway, I was going to see if I could find a blow torch and heat one of them as a preliminary test. But perhaps you can keep me from burning myself.

well Lead or Galena in natural form can contain Silver lead gold and platinum.. it also has a lot of sulphur,, but its heavy? odd it has a blue tinge to it it may be a telluriide magnesium arsenic, gold silver etc etc.. do a paper marking to it (use it like a pencil) and post that pict.. I'd have it assayed either way.. get a complete breakdown.

possibly tektites, also possibly Coral Fossils in sandstone.. the coral has a tendency to "Suck" the Iron into its body petrifying it, If they are in sandstone I would not Blow torch them.. just due to Sandstone to off gass and explode.

Thanks Dustedyou and I am so glad you are back. I posted in Gold Prospecting a post name ( dug out of ground and unwashed ) I would like for you to check out for me if you can or I can post pictures in this feed for you to see. Hit a quartz vein in a bank with backhoe and busted some rocks and gold colored chunks and nuggets and powder fell down and the clay was full of this stuff, so I put some photos on there and hade not washed them at the time but have washed them since then. When I pick them up to handle the bits of gold colored stuff fall of in my hand if im not careful. Looks like to me buttery globs on the rocks. Not sparkley and did a color test and color was yellow shiny. It has a dull yellow shine.

hit me with em .. or pm em or wich ever m8!

Here are some pics of some rocks I brought home from our quartz vein and 2 of them has got a lot of red in them so I busted one of them today and would like to know what you think as I was concerned about the red in the 2 rocks and wondered if it was poison to me or is it safe. The camera does not do it justice as it is so red in places that it looks like blood is going to come out of them. I did not use the flash on my camera to start but as you can tell in the pictures I got different colors from the pieces of the red rock. when I used flash and Part of the little piece looks like something else in it. Thanks a lot.

Where can I get an assay done? I just searched for an office near me and it doesn't show a single one in the entire state of Colorado. Is there a different name to use when searching instead of "assay office"?

Thanks Dustedyou, Here are some pics and the rocks re still dirty but hope you can give me a idea.Todays find 005.JPGTodays find 006.JPGTodays find 007.JPGTodays find 008.JPGTodays find 009.JPGTodays find 015.JPG

So a little background info.

I went hiking with a friend on Sunday to some old mine tailings and we grabbed some of the tailings and threw them in our backpacks.

Tonight I smashed them all up with a hammer and I am having trouble figuring out if this is some kind of tarnished looking pyrite, or perhaps something other than pyrite.

There is definitely a lot of pyrite in this ore along with quartz and rock that looks like it's grey clay. There is also iron staining on it, especially near the specs that give off the gold color. So is the gold sheen nothing more than the iron staining the pyrite, or something else?

I also sent you a PM with a little more info about the mine and area in case that helps.

There is a whole lot of this stuff laying around, almost every rock I smashed looked like this. I have about a 1/4 bucket full and there is a lot more there. If there wasn't so much of it laying around I'd be more inclined to have a good feeling about it. But because of the abundance, it seems a little weird that the old miners would have left it and/or someone didn't come along in recent years and grab it all up.

Thanks!

I just found this site. So much great information and help.

I found this rock on the shore of Lake Huron, Ontario. I've searched everywhere as to what it may be. The formation as so interesting. It has a few flat surfaces that anr shiney and a couple of crevices with dark smooth glass like fillings.
It also has a small rusty spot that seems like a nail head maybe not though.
Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your time.

And these are some miscellaneous small ones I have lying around.

These rocks have green glass like crystals on the surface. The smaller pebbles seem to be made entirely from the same substance. They were found on lake huron. My instant thought was malachite.

Similar to the above but with a rusty yellow side.
A similar one also has a small flakey metallic bit that is soft and flakes off. Reminds me of graphite.

Quartz? It has a lot of shiney black stuff on it that I see on a few other similar pieces. It's hard to see on cam but it has a few gold coloured metallic flecks in it.

Coffee Dusty? Thisis a picture of a closed - sealed - room our men just opened up. There were various skeletons, two of which were almost intact, along with a stone axe and a broken Spanish Sword. What is the green stuff that appears like moss, remember this room probably hasn't been opened since 1630's. I haven't been able to get back up to Tayopa for a while Hows the neck my friend?.
