My husband found this rock while digging a backyard at work. It made an explosive sound and this is a piece of a bigger rock. Found it in a backyard is Silver Spring, Maryland. Could it be a valuable rock?

Would like some help putting this to rest. 8lbs. Density over 7. Not magnetic. State geologist doesn't know, fascinated by the long grains. Meteorite expert at State U, wants to slice a chunk off for analysis. I think it is Zinc, but have a tough time understanding how it ended up in North Dakota and is 8lbs.
Also took it to a rock/gem show where someone put a "window" on it. Result was a perfect mirror, like chrome.
Also Also, tested hardness, and my pocket knife doesn't scratch it. Zinc shows hardness of 2.5 so I guess it can't be that.
Found with metal detector. Magnetic, really hard. Shinny specs
Thanks!
Found in the central valley California. It just looked odd to me.View attachment 1504222View attachment 1504223View attachment 1504224View attachment 1504225View attachment 1504226
