I don't even know where to begin! My buddy Phil and I got back onto the field where I've been hunting for the past month. It's a generational site and today certainly proved that! We started in a new area and Phil almost immediately found a piece to a sword guard. A couple minutes later he found another part of the guard. I commented to him that there is probably more and that I was going to find the pommel...and sure enough 3 feet from the other pieces I found the pommel! I am very pleased with that as it's a relic I've always wanted to find!

We decide to fan out looking for more and a couple minutes later I have old silver in the hole! It's a 1676 French 4 Sol! This is actually the second 1676 4 Sol I've found.

Found a lot of lead including a couple ingots and hogue cylindrical piece. Think they were making buttons at this site.

Near the end of the day we start making our way back to the car and within 30 feet I get a nice high silver tone. I pop the plug and there it is...big American silver! This is extremely rare in my area (Nova Scotia) and I could not believe the date! Amazing condition as well!!!

Seems to work like that sometimes. We think we've done well with one find...but we have no clue with what's in store. It was that way when I dug my find-of-a-lifetime this summer. Was feeling pleased with the CW bullets and silver spoon I'd dug but I had no clue what was in store.

With all the attention of the beautiful half dollar, the 1600s French is really in great shape and one heck of a find in its own regard.

Congrats on a fantastic hunt,

Buck

Agreed. Don't get mew wrong, I love the .50 cent piece, but the 1600's silver is what gets me excited! Just imagine what else could be there! Cobs, Tree coins, Colonial Gold perhaps.?.?. Hold onto that thunder for a while. It's going to take me some time to swipe it back :icon_thumright:

I'm extremely pleased with the 1676 4 Sol but it's actually the second 1676 4 Sol that I've found and the first one I found is in even better condition! It certainly made the day but I think the half made the year!

Did you do something do something to upset the banner Gods? Makes no sense why this isn't on the banner yet. Either of these coin finds deserve to be up there - combine them in one hunt and it should be automatic.

LOL...no, I don't think so...I try to "play nice" with everyone...

Ok they finally responded on the pcgs chat forums and can be seen thru the link. Looks to be either an O-107 or O-108 and it's probably a 107 according to the members. Hope this helps! Will have to check 111 as Don mentioned earlier.

Thanks for the assist! I actually do think that this one has the experimental edge...I'll try to get some pics but there does appear to be some "hen scratches" on the edge. I assumed it was incidental damage or some kind of error but I'll have to take a closer look.

I hope it is the O-107 rather than the 111, either one is good. I looked again and I initially dismissed 107 due to a few letters in E PLURIBUS UNUM not lining up correctly, but now looking I think that was not the case. However, I still see no discrepancy in the reverse for the 111, there must be something different I cannot notice. This is where an attribution book comes in handy, knowing exactly what features to look for. Hopefully you can see the expertimental marks that are supposed to be on the edge., Hope the guy on that coin forum posts his edge shots....

Congrats on making BANNER! :hello2:

Congratulations Romeo. Love that site you got there, hope I can take a stab at it one of these days, seeing what came out in your last few hunts there makes me want to kick myself for not insisting we tried it the day we drove through there....I knew just by the look of the place it had tremendous potential, you just proved it!

I can't believe I waited 2 years to finally search out permission...I'm almost kicking myself but I had a couple decent fields on the go so I won't be too hard on myself!

You know where I live! You're welcome anytime...Cora will even treat us to another turkey dinner! I'd even invite IronPatch too but I don't want to give him his shovel back! :laughing7:

WOWSERSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS !!!!!!!!!!!!

That is a very nice pretty coin ....sweet find !!

Amazing hunt for you....I,m still looking for my big hunt .

That sol is same year as mine...is that the most common year for a sol ?
