I don't even know where to begin! My buddy Phil and I got back onto the field where I've been hunting for the past month. It's a generational site and today certainly proved that! We started in a new area and Phil almost immediately found a piece to a sword guard. A couple minutes later he found another part of the guard. I commented to him that there is probably more and that I was going to find the pommel...and sure enough 3 feet from the other pieces I found the pommel! I am very pleased with that as it's a relic I've always wanted to find!

We decide to fan out looking for more and a couple minutes later I have old silver in the hole! It's a 1676 French 4 Sol! This is actually the second 1676 4 Sol I've found.

Found a lot of lead including a couple ingots and hogue cylindrical piece. Think they were making buttons at this site.

Near the end of the day we start making our way back to the car and within 30 feet I get a nice high silver tone. I pop the plug and there it is...big American silver! This is extremely rare in my area (Nova Scotia) and I could not believe the date! Amazing condition as well!!!

i would get that graded ASAP beautiful coin! Amazing!

I'm considering it....but most grading companies won't slab a dug coin. Any recommendations?

I would recommend calling the 4 of the top tier Coin Grading Services companies (PCGS, NGC, ANACS and ICG) to ask! They may want you to send excellent photos of the coin of not only the Obverse and Reverse but also of all of the rim. Go with the one that offers the best service for the coin that they can provide (i.e. not just "Authentic" if possible on the holder but also a grade and attribution of Overton Variety).

I was thinking about it...I did an article a few years ago that was published and it was a fun experience...I think I could get a story out of this one...

Lol!! When it rains, it pours! Fantastic

I don't know what I like the best. I don't think Id'e ever find one of those French coins here in Mass.
But the U.S. 1/2 is in unheard-of condition.
What-a-day!
