I've had the problem too but for a different reason. The logos for the World Cup and the Olympics are registered trademarks and they don't indicate that on the pieces. Lawyers would have been all over that one had they been made and distributed here.

Daryl

Ever spend any time in Korea? Trade Marks are something to avoid, copy, or forge - not something to abide by.

It's also possible that they were made for carnival give-aways or claw machines. They would be very cheaply made and probably sold in big lots with a bunch of different types of toys. I think that could also be why they are so hard to pin down.

Funny thing happened today too, I recieved a reply to an email that i sent last night and the guy told me I had already asked him about them and he still didn't know. LOL, I think someone else out there sent him them before me.

yep could be

Montana Jim.

My point exactly. They wouldn't care but in the US the lawyers make you care.

It has to do with the year when North and South Korea agreed to make Sports cooperation.
This also explains the many sports logos.
Additionally they agreed to participate in the World Cup and the Olympic Games with one common North/South team !!!!
Therefore also the World Cup Logo and The Olympic Logo !!

I have been searching with this in mind,,,,,,,I feel its promising

BTW I did have info on a big car race in 2002,, can't seem to find it... will post it when I do.

I'm sorry if this has been mentioned...but I'm not going through 7 pages of posts to find out...I think you should try going to the source of this "problem"...stake out the school, and grab the first Korean looking kid that comes along...tell 'em you'll deport him if he doesn't spill his nuts about what these things are..seriously, if the school has a large Korean population, bring a picture of 'em to a teacher and let her show them to the kids...maybe they could even make a class project out of finding where they came from...of course you'll have to wait till school starts again...but something tells me you'll still be trying to figure it out by then...good luck..

It could just be generic set with sports logos but why put 2002 in the mix?

Piggman....here's a link to Kevin Cook's website...he's a collector of dice and has so many, from various places and various shapes. I didn't look through ALL the pages....but thought maybe if you tried to contact him and send him a pic of what you found...he may (hopefully) have some insight as to what exactly these are, if they are, infact, dice.

Here's the link: http://www.dicecollector.com/

I'd send him an email, but I'm afraid I won't be here to get the response, as we are leaving for Arkansas to find some pretty "dice" (otherwise known as DIAMONDS! LOL).

Good luck...we don't leave for two more days, but we have alot of packing to do and I am still scheduled to work the next two days. I still haven't any luck as to what these are. Folks that come in find them interesting and many have asked once they are identified..to let them know! LOL.

Hope Kevin Cook will be able to enlighten us all!

That's the current thinking. The sporting events/logos are somehow tied to something that occurred in 2002. Dates of manufacture are typically small and not so prominent. If they were continuing sets, this could be the 2002 set. The 2003 three set would have that date and so on. Doesn't seem likely though as we can't find any source. If they were made for years, there would be more out there.

I'm really tempted to try your idea :D :D :D but there are not many Korean kids around here. I have shown them at the school to the coaches and principle without results. I just got in and read all the post of the evening. There have been some very good points brought up. I have to question the the thought of them being made here in the US, too. Not only for the reasons stated, but also if they were made in the US, or distributed in the US, someone would have been able to recognize them by now. It's not like it would have been a top secret toy that only a select few received. I still haven't heard back from the guy who made that video. Hopefully he will answer back and shed a little light on these things. And on a final note, I'm pretty sure there are more out there to be found, I've hunted for them many times with only the ones shown being found. It's really a hit or miss thing. You can miss one by inches and never know it, and that is a fairly large area. I don't think for one minute that all of them have been found, and in most probability, never will be. It's like anything else, every time I search I find something I missed on the previous searches. They could be anywhere in that football field.

Thanks, I will contact him and post his response. Good luck on your diamond hunt. I hope you are one of those that finds a big one. Have a safe trip and be sure and show pictures of these at every diner you stop at. :D :D :D

I wish I could find the missing top to the race car one. Two sets would explain the date on the tops of those two, and basketball or whatever player on the tops of the others, but I would think that if they were two sets, they would have two totally different designs on the other side too. But then again, I may be totally off base on that thought. That missing end cap would tell a lot in my opinion. That is the drive that keeps me going back.

Just received a reply back from Kevin Cook:
David

I wish I could help

About all I can come up with is that they are related to the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City UT (US)

They dont seem to be dice

So now we know they are not dice. I kinda thought that this club would have at least seen some of these before. When it comes to dice, They seem to be the experts. OK, that eliminates that, back to the drawing board.

Because the Inter-Korean agreement on Sports Cooperation was made in that year !!!!!!!!

It´s a very important year for the two Koreas !!

That's what I thought as well. That would make them a commemorative set and not just a generic set of Jack Stones or whatever they are.

OK, then if this is not a generic set, and is a commemorative set. There are pics and info on them for sure. The question is...where? I just got back from another search with no luck on finding any more. I'm afraid that it won't be long before I can't go back there until after school lets out next year. School maintenance was putting new chain and locks on the gate to get in. Once school starts they will lock it up. They have already chalklined the football field.

Try asking Marilyn. She's the genius in Parade magizine thats in the Guiness Book of records for having the worlds highest IQ.

Maybe if it stumps her she will post the pics in her column and all the tens of thousands of readers might be able to ID them.

http://www.marilynvossavant.com/

She answers just about every brainteaser or inquirey there is.

I cant smoke in my house, it offends the wife, so I cant sit here and bite my nails so I only got through 4 pages of posts before i couldnt take it any more.

It's a shot, dont know if anyone suggested to you or not...but heck...why should us MD'ers be the only one goin crazy?
