onward and upward.......lol ;D we'll get it.

I've been researching game pieces, sports game pieces, etc, untill my eyeballs are about to fall out. :o I just can't figure out what makes this so difficult. Surely this was not the only set of whatever made. And then again, maybe I'm looking in the whole wrong direction, we have yet to prove they are game pieces.

I feel the same, everything I try is a dead end. So if they are not part of a game what else could they be? Maybe some obscure 2 sided display with round holes in it and the octagon shape keeps them from falling thru the round holes?

Any other ideas besides games out there?

Charlie

I've even installed the software to translate Korean, Japanese, and other foriegn languages so I could check out these theories of games on their web pages. Nothing!

I GOT IT These are Metal decor Decoys, intentionaly planted to throw off the treasure hunter from the hidden Cache that surly waits nearby, You can send my 20.00 pay pal T.C.

By jove, I think you have it! The checks in the mail as we speak.

See Agersea, you just gotta be from Texas (we know everthang)

Are you guys sleeping at night?

Are you guys okay?

Man - I've obsessed before, but jeez - watching you guys with these pignuts is making me worry a little aboutcha's.

I hated to ask because the responses might send us clear into page 8!

But I needed to letcha know we are all rooting for someone to either figure this out - or to let it go. I see the Professor has taken the pignut's into the other notoriuos whatsit, the 15-dial-thing. LOL

Good luck!

Jim, we are running out of ideas. Jump in and think of some new directions for us look in.

p.s. Let it go??? I don't think thats an option

I'm leaning toward the joint korean gonggi angle... but need some kind of concrete proof.

I think they are jack stones... but really need to see another set

I've been tossing in a few thoughts throughout the post... and reading it from the begining. :)

Geez! I go out of town for a day and you men go NUTZ! (Tee Hee)
I agree with piggman, find another set, a source, ect..
It may look like a duck, but one must remember there are many different types of Ducks and some ducks have opposite habit's than others... they look the same but are different..
(for example: mud ducks vs mallards) if you would like me to elaborate... let me know..
That said, I support the finder... but also wish to point out... you all are getting tunnel vision here. I believe the items were produced in the US to support something... (unless they were lost in this park by a foreign exchange student) They are not an important collector item to an adult... Why? clearly a kid took them to the park and lost them.. I also assume they do not show up on an internet search for the same reason..
The pieces have already given a clue of their origin...
2002, world games, etc....
My personal thought is to look for the "what company" and less about analyzing what the symbols portray and/or mean.
getting off the soap box now....
No offence guy's OK?.....

Hi again guys ! ;)

This thread is real funny. ::)

Some of us have been doing a LOT of surching, and found out things.
When we come with things that could explain the nuts and the signs on them,
the theories are at once questioned.

Regularly users who clearly haven´t read the thread come in with theories that can´t be possible, maybe we should still look in that direction ! ::)

That makes this thread FUNNY, but also helps making it very LONG.

Now I will not bother you any more in this thread, just say that I thing a lot of people have been doing a fantastic job on these &¤#%/&&¤¤ Nuts ! ;D

To finally sum up what we know till now:

The nuts

- have a undiscussable similarity with the Korean Gonggi Game pieces (I´d say they are !)
- UNDISCUSSABLY in the 2002 sign have both the signs of South (ying yan) and North (sun sign) Korea.
- have all signs, simbols and logos that relate to the North - South Korean cultural / sports cooperation agreements.
- have signs that have NO relation to the idea / rules of the game it self what so ever, they are just celebrating the event and the agreements.
- found by Piggman are representing at least 2 sets of game pieces, as a Gonggi Set contains of 5 pieces.

Here a smal Video showing how it´s played, notice the Game pieces !!!

Piggman I don´t know if it´s them, but they look metalic !!

agersea :)

I'd say Agersea has it right. I found a picture of them and they are exactly the same In shape.
I don't know if the pic will load (first time trying to load a pic) so here is the link:

The quote below also states that the 2002 World cup was held in Korea. Id say they are commemorative Korean jacks from that event. Mystery solved!!

"The 2002 FIFA World Cup, the 17th staging of the World Cup, was held in South Korea and Japan from May 31 to June 30. The two countries were chosen as hosts by FIFA in May 1996. For the first time in its history, the World Cup was organized by two countries. It was also the first World Cup held in Asia, and the first held outside Europe or the Americas. Brazil won the tournament for a record fifth time, beating Germany 2-0 in the final."

Hey hunter think that the 2002 World cup being held in Korea has anything to do with it?

I've worked this thing to death myself. I agree with you guys. They are Jack Stones as the similarity is too great for them to be anything else. I think the mystery for awhile has been: why is there a race car on one of the pieces, why the Olympic rings, what were they made for, and why metal. To finish solving the mystery, we have to find what ties all these things together. They are not just World Cup related. 2002 is pretty much a no brainer but the other logos don't make sense. Basketball?? Why is Basketball on the reverse of most of them.

So even if we have a name for what they are, it doesn't explain why they are the way they are and that is "The Rest of the Story."

Professor, you are right on the money, even if I am not 100% convinced they are Jack Stones, the mission, you stated well. By the way, WELCOME BACK! I thought you had jumped ship.
For anything mass produced, there is a picture of it somewhere. For every game mass produced, new or old, there is a picture of it. Kovel's has pictures and descriptions of games new and old, so do lots of other collectors books. Judging from some of the recent replies, some people think that the internet is the only place where research has been done. They haven't read the post the whole way through to get an idea as to the hours and sources that have been exhausted in this search. They are tying to brush them under the carpet as an easy out without even researching the research that has already been done. Every coin, token, and button that was mass produced has a picture and description of it somewhere. This is no different. It has to have been mass produced, unless by an extremely rare case, It was a prototype. Which I'm sure it's not. We have not found that description or picture to match these items as of yet. If you dug up a large cent and didn't know what it was, but could see the date on it, would you settle for being told ONLY that it was a penny? I doubt it. The same here with these. There are people on here that have spent countless hours researching, contacted countless people and companies, shown them off to people that have never seen this thread, countless hours of looking on the internet and at the library reading books, and to just brush this off with "it is a game piece" is an insult to the hard work that has been done. To even try to get this thread to stop by saying "this is a game piece" without having even read the whole thread is an even bigger insult. It's like being told "it's just a penny". So for those that are tired of this topic, or think it has gone too far, all I can say is, read something else, and maybe one day you will find "just a penny".
To everyone else who has worked hard on this without giving up or settling for an easy way out, I say THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR THE TREMENDOUS HELP AT TRYING TO SOLVE THIS REDICULOUS MYSTERY!

It is apparent that you have not read this whole thread. These have already gone the going over. Please read the thread before jumping to conclusions. After all, "it's only a penny".

Hi Piggman1,

Haven't jumped ship just nothing to add. I agree that we can't stop by saying they are a game piece or Jack Stones. That just gives us a label. A direction to look in that may be productive. If, as you say, it were a penny. We would be able to focus our attention in the area of "Pennies." Now, I think, we can focus on oriental games with Jack Stones being the most likely candidate since there are Jack Stones that are identical in shape and size(?) as the items you have.

I have emails out to the people who actually put on the 2002 World Cup in South Korea. I sent them all pictures of the pieces. I hope they can read the email (couldn't write it in Korean) and either give me some direction or send them to people they know to ask. So right now, I am in a waiting mode since I don't know where else to go. My mind can't come up with places to search I haven't tried. For some reason, I think the race car holds the most promise. It is the one really "unique" piece/sport. It doesn't fit with any of the others.

Oh well, I'll wait a little longer for a reply before I resend to some other people that were involved in the 2002 games.

I think we die hards will hang in there and keep things on track. If others don't read the entire post before making their guess or their 2 cents worth, things could get tangled up in a hurry. If that happens, a new thread may need to be started that gives all the information about what we've done up until now in a condensed format.

Daryl
