Yes, I get that "point." What I was trying to point out was that the common nut we encounter are typically 6 pointed - Hex nuts. Not 8 pointed - Octagonal nuts. Just odd that they chose to make these nuts 8 points.

They are still solidly closed in BOTH ends !!!

no i know that... if the end of the nut slid into the tube up to the hex part

I've been reading along with this thread for awhile, and have a question I don't think has been asked yet.

If you roll them like dice do they stand up to show the picture, or are they just as likely to lay on one of the 8 flat sides?

Visions of Yahtzee keeping popping into my head.

Just as likely to end up either way. I've tried this several times just to see. Some end up on their ends, and some on their sides.

Not sure about a reward but a few days without a new nut to figure out would be nice.

I do spend too much time on this I admit. That's what happens to you when you couple an obsessive personality with a problem that is seemingly easy to solve as well as a fast internet connection.

Fun but really frustrating.

No, I haven't tried that yet. I'm not even sure if there are any in my area without having to drive way into Austin to find one. And I HATE going into Austin.

I've going to try another idea before we try that. I'm going to put them on Craigs list under the listing of Free Money, in their "FREE" section. Then offer $20.00 of free money to anyone that can show proof as to what they are. I don't know how long it will stay up before it gets flagged off, if it does, but a lot of people read those down here.
