Re: DUMPSTER DIVING GARBAGE PICKING READ & SEE WHAT IS FOUND HERE UPDATE 2009

Now that I'm back in Germany, I have since gotten a nice piece.

I have been putting off buying a butler because of their high cost; My wife is always getting after me for hanging my uniform on the back of a chair in the dining room. Last week, the occupants of the building next to where I work was getting all new modular furniture and I saw several really nice chairs sitting under the covered porch out front. I went to grab my vehicle and came back. I grabed the one with the least amount of wear, no wobble and no mars across the leather and the seat is still firm and supportive.

It turned out to be a great piece! It's leather with brass furniture tacks and a high gloss finish. I'm sure countless Generals had it in the corner of his/her office - the chair must be 30-40 years old and it looks less than a year! This will make a nice butler for my clothes - it sure beats the spare bed or a dining room chair and my wife is happy!

Now that the weather is turning nice, I'll try to keep my eyes peeled for 'junk' left on the side of the road!

When I was a kid in the early sixties you could go to your local dump and just rummage through it. Boy did I find a lot of treasures. I remember finding a big fat scrapbook filled with Beatles memorabilia, pins, pictures, ticket stubs......and I threw it back!!!! What an idiot, but who knew. Remember it was the mid sixties. I also found a huge suitcase full of fireworks (kept that and nearly blew my hand off!!) Rich.

Re: DUMPSTER DIVING GARBAGE PICKING READ & SEE WHAT IS FOUND HERE UPDATE 2009

In the last month I have picked up 3 antique wooden chairs, (2 rocking, 1 stationary), that were being thrown out because someone had stepped through the cane seating.
I ordered replacement caning off the web ($25), found the instructions, repaired all three in one weekend and sold the set for $190.
Now I have a new skill and about 6 chairs that I am repairing for others for extra $. :hello2:

Yea i remember in the late 70's you could search through the trash on the ground and not miss anything. Now they use dumpsters. :( Funny I found a large cooler full of fireworks. Still use the cooler to this day.

I have a son that lives in the Phoenix area, and he regularly tells me about his tales of dumpster diving, college kids rent apartments for the semester and when they go home for good the will abandon all kinds of goodies. He once found a gallon jar full of change in a pile of stuff, had over 100 bucks in it, but he has also pulled out computer monitors, chairs, tables, all kinds of stuff....

MY Youngest daughter is stationed in Korea on her second tour had to stop herself from this practice, as she is space limited, again this time solders going home abandon all kinds of stuff, printers, and all kinds of furniture, movies, video games, as they cannot e bay anything, it is either take the time to ship it home or throw it away....

While out metal detecting on 8-16-09 I picked up both these electric scooters from the garbage pile in front of a Million $ + home.
There were a few ceiling fans and lamps and other stuff but I left that stuff for someone else.
I just wanted the scooters.
Both have the chargers and both work great.
Only had to patch up the inner tube on the front of each one.
My daughter loves riding them around...so do I..
When I'm done with them I should get at least $50 - $ 75 for each....

Found my oldest Indian Head penny too... 1880.... while detecting that day
