why would you dumpster dive and get all that rotten Garbage Juice all over you??? instead you should advertise that you Pay Cash for Gold.. lets say you pay $20 a gram for 14k like me.. seeing how 1 gram is worth $24 .. and make about $1000 a week... rather make $2000 a year dumpster diving/.

because the stuff in dumpsters is free

Ride on Marty................Snagged me a nice Thermos cooler today, the funny thing was I was going to buy one this week...What luck....

I do foreclosure home inspections for a bunch of banks and lenders. You would not believe the stuff that people leave behind when they go. Its mind blowing. I have found 4 stroke motorcycles, 4 wheelers, go carts tons of bicycles tv`s kitchen stuff furniture. I really dont have the time t0o go through most of these homes when I find them vacant, I dont get paid for that. I do around 80 inspections a day. Most homes are occupied and thats what I am there to verify but I find at least 2-3 a day that have been abondoned that month. Most people are pissed at the banks and leave the doors open when they go and then the dope heads come in and take the appinaces and fixutres and then they even rip the drywall out for the copper. Found a trailer today that had that done. I love my job

I do property preservation on these foreclosed home also..... it IS amazing what people leave behind BUT you ar not allowed to take anything until a clean out is ordered or you are subject to being arrested for theft of property. I performed an initial secure on one in Birmingham where all I could do was change a door lock and take interior photos. There was all kind of cool stuf there... aluminum car wheels, lawnmowers, furniture, everything in the kitchen cabinets, even saw a box with gold jewelry in it....a fe days later I had to go let the original owners back in the property so they could get some things.... sometime after I was there someone went in and took the wheels and jewelry and some other things.... the people called the police and I had 2 give a statement that I saw th items and didnt take anything

yep you are correct, thats why I just take the pics. I find doors kicked in all the time from thieves, our postal system down here for some unknown reason green tapes the mail boxes of vacant houses and thats a red flag for the dope heads on which houses to hit.

In my area they have a yearly "Bulk Trash Pickup" in several of the towns around us. I started doing this about 5 years ago. I wouldn't even know where to start about how much cool stuff I have found. Brand new stuff still in boxes !! The best find so far I think was 14 cans of UGL Drylok cement sealer. still sealed and still in their boxes. (2 per box). I grabbed them all, went to Lowes, gave them some story that I was restoring a warehouse and I didnt need them anymore, but I lost my receipt. Turns out they go for around $22 + change per gallon. I got a store credit gift card for about $345. :headbang: Happy dance time !!

My Wife and I also run a bike drive which was born out of "Curbside Shopping" as we like to call it. We have repaired and given out over 900, yes 900 !! bikes to kids in our area in the last 4 years. We also have been taking private donations and donations from local police stations. It started by fixing a few bikes and giving them to kids on our block as has developed into a monster. Google : Grafe's Bike Drive to check it out.

Legally it is a good study for us Treasure/recyclers to try to equate what we do to dumpster diving...Yet the dumpster owner usually owns the stuff and can take a business loss for divers work, It still qualifies as abandoned property in some respects and legally is similar.

Anybody ever read the book "The Art & Science of Dumpster Diving"?

Anybody ever read the book "The Art & Science of Dumpster Diving"?

I bought it around last December and only about half through. I am not a slow reader just don't have time to sit and read. :read2:

So far I don't like his attitude. I enjoy his writing and story telling ability but so far (half the book) he talks about eating what he finds and his hatred of cops. Sounds like he got into trouble earlier in life and had some run ins because of a bad attitude.

I bought it off Amazon (used) and got a good price, so I can't complain.
Maybe the last half will get into non-food items. Overall I did learn things from it.
Any other opinions??

I agree with you about his anti-establishment attitude. I didn't have a problem with the food part, but later in the book he drifts a little too close to ID theft. All in all, he woke me up to the possibilities of profiting from others wastefulness. I'm just not quite ballsy enough to dive in without a lookout.

My dad lived in a trailer park that consisted of retired or semi retired people. He would go around collecting their newspapers, in fact anytype of paper to recycle. While if the person or couple died their children normally just dumped the desk and drawers. My dad use to find old silver coins, gold coins, jewelry and paper money...an they say you can't make money in america.

I actually dived my own apartment dumpster this weekend, sorta.

somebody moved out and left 2 endtables. The ugliest things you ever saw.

the top shelf looked like this
nick_logo.png

and looked like it was plasma cut 1/4" aluminum, the 4 legs were threaded rod and bottom shelf was just steel circle.

I waited till after dark and easily removed the 4 acorn nuts on ea and lifted off the aluminum top. they feel like 5-6 lbs each.

Hey, I have to start somewhere. I left the steel just don't have room to store any bulky stuff.

When it hits the dumpster on the curb it becomes public property anyone can go through it and there is nothing that can be done about it how do you think leo can find things out about a person without a warrent same goes for reporters.

Re: BESIDES M D DOES ANYONE DUMPSTER DIVE/GARBAGE PICK FOR TREASURES UPDATE 4/27/07

I missed it by that much. I wasn't in the right place at the right time. :-\

We have an extra dumpster at the side of our building in a corner, very close to where I park my car. Some time after 10:30 this morning a trunk very simular to this was put behind the dumpster.

At 11:30 my buddy went to put something in the dumpster and saw the trunk. He knew I am into antiques and started to get me but a supervisor walked up and asked whose it was. and since I had not actually claimed it yet he told her he just found it there. So she claimed it if he didn't want it. It was fair :icon_thumleft: she put her dibs on it first.

Man it is huge. it is Houdini size. It is not in fantastic shape but it is well taken care of. Here is a question that I am not expecting an answer. Why would someone put that behind a dumpster in an industrial area. I think someone found it and was hiding it to come back later and pick it up. The dumpster was emptied probably around 10AM. Maybe it was the trashtruck driver planning on getting it on his way home tonight.

There were hundreds of Harmony Kingdom figurines cast. The vast majority were still mint in their original packaging. Some were still packed in their containers when 8:00. You can look on eBay or elsewhere and see what these items are. They are very beautiful and expertly carved.

Re: DUMPSTER DIVING GARBAGE PICKING READ & SEE WHAT IS FOUND HERE UPDATED 2011

I love this thread, I'm sitting here at a computer desk I found on the curb, looking at a stereo that came from the trash, an endtable, and various other things I have acquired at dumpster mart. My best find was last year......

We have a thrift store near the house, and they basically toss most of what's donated straight in the trash. Last summer, I found a brand new leather motorcycle jacket in my size and a Carhartt coat also in my size, but the best was I picked up a pair of Levis thinking they might be old enough to be worth a few bucks, and noticed the pocket had something in it. That something turned out to be six $100 bills!!!! Now every time I go there I check pockets ;D

New Orleans is great for dumpsters, especially if you want building supplies or antique furniture. I spied a dumpster with five desks from the 30s or 40s in it a few weeks back. I had no way to get any of them, but I put it on Craigslist and they were gone in a few hours.
