Do you hunt and MD with a Gun?

I'm a serving member of the RCMP up here in Canada. I carry a firearm when I work, because it is one of my tools. Having said that, when I'm off duty I would never ever want to carry my firearm. It's a sad statement on society that you all feel so threatened by everyone around you that you only feel safe when you're armed. By all means carry bear spray for animals in the woods, and carry a hunting rifle, not an assault rifle, when you hunt. Bring your pistol to the range and have fun.

Americans kill each other in record numbers with guns, more then any other country in the history of the world.

Please reconsider carrying in public, pick your hunting spots more carefully and leave your weapons at home. Your kids and mine have to share this world when we are gone, let's set a good example.
Peace.

We could send all our criminals to Canada so we don't have to carry for our protection or if we see a fellow bystander or woman getting mugged or worse we can turn our heads and so oh well their is enough shooting going on I will let this one slide. Not once did I see anyone say on here that they where gonna pull a gun on someone approaching them and shoot they simple asked if we carry while hunting so don't always assume that we are gonna shoot someone sometimes they sight of a firearm is enough to scare someone away me I will always carry unless its posted by law. GOD BLESS AMERICA I STILL BELIEVE IN THIS GREAT COUNTRY AND GOB BLESS OUR TROOPS AND LAW ENFORCEMENT, FIREFIGHTERS, EMT AND ALL WHO RUN INTO DANGER INSTEAD OF AWAY

I have big fingers and a small keyboard sorry for the misspelled words and punctuation lol

I only hunt at the oceanfront. I don't think many firearms work well after taking a dunk in the brine but I'm no firearms expert. My July 5th hunt I was on the beach when the sun rose. I had a couple of drunk college kids from the night before walk up and give me the fifth degree (slurred version that is.) I laid my metal detector down at my feet and assumed a defensive stance with my solid aluminum "Monster Scoop." I never uttered a word....they finished cursing and moved on down the beach. Never thought I would have to deal with something like that while I was relaxing with my favorite hobby; however, stupid drunks can be found anywhere in this world.

Crispin

Crispin I have several ways to carry including under my arms, on my chest and behind my neck, it is easy to adapt a firearm to be able to carry in almost any legal situtation.......... Only way mine would get wet is if I went over chest deep or went under....

Glocks are all plastics or composite but a good cleaning after carrying in water should never give u issues

Mental Note: Never underestimate TH unless I see him go under water to retrieve a target. ;)

I was bothered enough by those idiots to lay my metal detector down and listen to their verbal barrage for thirty seconds or so, but once they moved down the beach I didn't give them a second thought. They may not have found trouble that night or morning but if they keep that kind of thing up then it should not take them too long to learn a lesson the hard way. I'm just glad it was not me that had to teach em'.

No they're not. The trigger housing / magazine well assembly are composite but the slide is steel and the barrel is steel.

If somebody wanted a salt-water environment firearm, there are stainless and even titanium revolvers. The only weak link is the ammo which can be waterproofed by putting nail polish around the primer seat and the neck.

I'm not going to argue with people on here, the fact is you are more likely to shoot yourself, a loved one or an innocent person then any "bad" guy.

But hey, it's not like we all have to live together in a shrinking world.....

Peace out and God Bless.
Luckiest dad has a point. When I became a police firearms instructor in '84, I also became a Wisconsin Hunter Safety instructor. I learned then that teenaged boys that took the hunter safety course were more apt to be victims of self-inflicted accidental firearms injuries than those teens that did NOT take the safety course! Go figure! I am 64. I have had just one accidental discharge with a firearm in my life.... no injuries. I'm doing good! TTC

Rule #1 of going into the Boonies... bring an UZI.... or a .22

Yea as soon as I hit send I thought about it. I carry a desert eagle .45 and a sig .45

So lets see thy have made a cane with a knife inside a 410 inside a umbrella with a poison pellet, so when will some smart guy built a detector with a gun built in??:laughing7: The brain is a funny place.

its better to have a gun and not need it than needing a gun and not having it . when on the beach no in the woods yes.

My personal carry firearm is never beyond the reach of my arm 24/7 .

when 18 years old in 1979 = I was peacefully fishing , minding my "own business" at a city park near mad river, Ohio -- there is a city small park across the mad river from the hydro bowl park * I was fishing where a small feeder creek , joins into the mad river there --great fishing spot by the way --when two young males (about 18 to say 21 years to age) rode up on bikes with fishing poles --they asked how is the fishing and came down the slope to fish at the spot -- lots of room there and fish to so I didn't care --we chatted a bit and I loaned one of them a lure from my tackle box and he caught a fish on it --which I told them I would happily hold for them on my stringer till they got ready to leave --so as night began to fall they said it was time to go and that they want to get their fish and put it in their military style green back pack --I bent down to get it when- WHAMM -- I didn't know what happened at first , I slowly stood up with blood running down my face and into my eyes and my head spinning and dazed somewhat -- the rotten punks had hit me over the head with a chrome plated 3 layer motorcycle timing chain belt folded in two that they had hidden in the back pack while I was bent down with my back to them , as I got up and turned around one punk said to the other "I thought you said it would knock him out" --the other replied "it should have" -- thankfully I was in my prime at the time --6 foot 1 and 275 of muscle and meanness , and thank the lord their aim was off a bit --the blow ripped a L shaped chunk of scalp loose from my head and I was bleeding like mad but was still in shape to fight -- the punks said "give us your watch ,your ring and your wallet and we will not hit you anymore" -- my mother had worked long and hard to help me save up and buy my class ring and there was no way in hell --I was going to "punk out" and just give it up to the bums, plus I was pissed off I had been nothing but nice to them , let them "horn in" on my spot --told them the sweet spot to fish ,loaned em a lure --so screw em --if they wanted my stuff they had to "earn it" the old fashioned way. -- no I said --so the one with the chain ran towards me screaming as he came to hit me again -- I had my old fishing pole which had a "jitterbug" fishing lure ( 2 three prong hooks on it) on some old salt water 20 lb black braided line -- I swung my pole (a thumb thick heavy duty old fiberglass boat rod salt water type) at him attempting to hit him in the face with the tip but my "depth vision" was off and it sailed by harmlessly in front of his face , he had a wicked smile on his face since he knew that before I could reswing he would be able to hit me -- but suddenly he wasn't smiling anymore because the fishing lure hooks were buried into his neck and I was yanking them home as hard as I could -- he yelled and dropped the chain belt and the line broke and he retreated --I advanced and kicked the belt into the river -- holding my fishing rod like a sword --I said to the other punk "you want some of me" as he reached for the buck knife on his hip -- he thought better of it and said --it was his ideal--he then took his "friend" and they fled back up the hill and got on their bikes and left --I staggered up the hill and drove my car out of the park to the nearby fire station where I knocked on their door as someone answered I passed out from blood loss and shock -- I woke up 2 days later in the hospital with lots of stitches in my head -- had I lost that fight and fell where I was fishing at --I most likely would have died . since its a bit remote no one most likely would have found me -- it rained that night and the river rose --most likely I would have drowned --if I didn't die from the blood loss and shock first that is -- that's why I carry a gun ever since while out and about in the "outdoors" --no one ever "expects" to get mugged ,raped, or attacked when they go out --it just "happens" and as the boy scouts motto has taught me "be prepared"---better to have one and not need it than to need one and not have it. P.S.-- if I have had a gun in my tackle box I would have shot them both but being I was 18, I wasn't "allowed" to own a handgun at that time but once I was 21 its one of the first things I got.

Good read Ivan.

Some liberals will no doubt say if you had a gun at the time you would not have been justified to use it, but I would have, you were being attacked, assaulted and robbed. Like you said you could easily have died from several factors.

When someone is being attacked there is no way to know the extent of the physical damage being done to you at the time of the attack. Head injuries especially concussions can easily be life threatening.....

Glad you survived so you could attend our picnics.....

Ivan ya have to love them treble hook's on that Jitter Bug.
Let me know if you need a new Jitterbug to replace the one you implanted
in your attackers neck.
