Dear Friends,
I hope this message finds you well and that both your personal and professional endeavors are thriving.

Could you kindly confirm whether this gemstone is a Chrysoberyl? Additionally, I would appreciate it if you could provide the cost. The gemstone weighs 218 carats and the dimension is 15.6x37.2x93.5 mm. Please check the pictures of it in PDF format file.

Looking forward to your response.

Best regards,
George

Welcome to Tnet, George.

I think you're going to find most members are reluctant to open unsolicited pdf files... especially on a new member's first post. No offence intended, but the pdf format is increasingly being used to hide malware and other malicious codes which can evade anti-virus protection.

I would suggest you post your pictures openly as good sharp conventional image files if want opinions.

As an aid to identification, folks also want a location and any other information you can provide... especially hardness.

I replaced the PDF file by pictures.

Thanks for the pictures. I'm not seeing chrysoberyl. It looks more like a garnet, or possibly a spinel. They have similar hardness, with garnet being a little softer. A garnet will not fluoresce under UV light (occasionally very weakly so) but a spinel will have strong fluorescence.

Big price difference between the two. A rough garnet that size might have a value of up to a few tens of dollars, but a spinel considerably more. It all depends on the quality of the stone and suitability for cutting, but I can see multiple flaws in this one.

You didn't say where you found it, or provide any other information.
