Do you hunt and MD with a Gun?

Thanks for the bear spray advice. It would be a florida black bear and I imagine it would not bother us.

I was told today by a future hunt site owner if I want to hunt her land I have to carry my pistol with me. I said no problem. I always carry my knife with me when I am out any place while doing a hunt. Never had to use it but just in case.

Do I carry? Hmm... maybe. If I thought the area required me to carry, I have to seriously consider finding somewhere else to hunt! TTC

I can hardly imagine a scenario I would require a gun, I can kill or disable any three men with my md. Maybe a larger group.

I carry a can of bear spray...if it will stop a grizzly...it will stop a grown man...{personal experience}

good post rginn...if you don't have the training, you shouldn't be armed.
someone might just take that weapon away from you....

although it may stop a griz, have you met T_H?

This place where I will be is wilderness and she is worried about me getting hurt by animals. I doubt I will even need it but whatever it takes to get approval to hunt it doesnt matter to me.

After the Congress woman and other folks got shot in AZ I decided it was time to get my permit. I've carried everyday since. These days, you never know when you'll need it. I hope I never do.

I carry pepper spray/ mace. I figure the possibility of needing it for a dog or other animal are greater than human threats and would be effective in both scenarios. I've read enough tales of wild animal and snake encounters on this site to think it's a worthy investment.

while many folks are "scared" of hunting the old empty inner city lot areas of some of the so called tougher areas * --I see prime old spots that have been used and reused for many years --often trashy its true , but at times gold mines of goodies -- that being said -- I hunt where its legal --often these old lots have been put on the "public rolls" due to back taxes owed and are thus "publicly owned" land -- I hunt these often and go armed --in case of "riff /raff" types --most homeless folks are harmless but 10% are so can be dangerous thug types --its for the "dangerous ones" that I carry -- I am not going to be "bullied" by thug types , I hunt where I please. --I do try to go with a friend * a second set of eyes to watch your back never hurts.

Is finding a silver dime really worth taking a shot at some mean looking dude? This is where they live/stay.
Stay is the term they use. They are just checking you out to see if you're moving in on their turf. The best
approach is to show them you are not a threat. Gangs have watchers, if they see a vehicle they don't
recognize they will find out what you're up to.

One time I decided to go back to a spot I had found a silver half, it was snowing like crazy. I hadn't been
there 15 minutes when a crip guy found me in the bushes detecting. When he recognized me we had a
good laugh. He told me I was crazy. I was then the mailman in the hood.

Civilians are who I call non-detectorists. It's best to avoid them if possible.

Well..

I'm to old to fight...
And I'm to old to run...
But, I can still pull the trigger on my S&W gun!

And at my age, it's the cheapest "life insurance" I can afford!

I'm a serving member of the RCMP up here in Canada. I carry a firearm when I work, because it is one of my tools. Having said that, when I'm off duty I would never ever want to carry my firearm. It's a sad statement on society that you all feel so threatened by everyone around you that you only feel safe when you're armed. By all means carry bear spray for animals in the woods, and carry a hunting rifle, not an assault rifle, when you hunt. Bring your pistol to the range and have fun.

Americans kill each other in record numbers with guns, more then any other country in the history of the world.

Please reconsider carrying in public, pick your hunting spots more carefully and leave your weapons at home. Your kids and mine have to share this world when we are gone, let's set a good example.
Peace.

Not to worry.. when seconds count and your life is in danger.. the police is only minutes away!

I'm not going to argue with people on here, the fact is you are more likely to shoot yourself, a loved one or an innocent person then any "bad" guy.

But hey, it's not like we all have to live together in a shrinking world.....

Peace out and God Bless.

Average response time on 9-1-1 call is 10 mins or longer, a lot can happen in that 10 mins.

When seconds count my .45 or 9mm pistol is seconds away.

I have a friend who was mugged while night hunting the beach, I have been followed at night while hunting beach, I retreated into the water because I was not armed then. Now I am armed 95 % of the time when I leave home...

It is not the police or government' s job to protect me or my family, it is my job, the government's job is to ensure I have the right and freedom to do so.

When digging at a Plantation deep in the hellish Jungle and Bush of South Louisiana, usually an UZI on a shoulder sling; or a Ruger Mk. II .22 Pistol.

or...

It's a sad statement on society that you all feel so threatened by everyone around you that you only feel safe when you arm other people(police) to protect you!

But, it's nice to live in a country where you have the right of choice!
