Coinstar Finds

even better a steel metal yardstick cut a notch in it to catch coins from under vending machines -- ps --a plunger type 3 prong spring loaded nut grabber tool is great for fishing stud type silver , gold ,and diamond chip earrings and other bits of jewelry that fall into the catch pan underthe coin dump tray (thru the holes _-- got a thin 14 k harringbone necklace that way once -- think of it as a claw machine game--in thru the hole with tip closed -over target push to open grab--let close , bring up --wear coat -- put spring tool inside sleave to cover your action

Here's one of only 2 known '44s steel cents- finest known in ms66. Look at the price tag on that one, baby! Sold in a Heritage auction. I think it's the most ever paid for a Lincoln cent.

Yesterday,1/15/13 ,I found 2 quarters in the reject slot of the Coinstar machine in my store and 2 wheaties on top of the machine. I've watched people rerun rejected coins thru the machine several times and when they don't go thru, they either leave them in the reject slot or leave them on the machine.

Anyone care to venture if they have changed the machines to EAT silver now?

Not from a coinstar, but from the tellers at a bank (originally came from inside machine, so it is included here).

First time in a long time that I have gotten no British and Jamaican coins.

I never heard of Coin Star hunting. One day last week I was at a Wal Mart and while waiting for my cars oil to be changed I noticed a lady putting coins in a Coin Star, and one coin kept falling into the reject slot. I started talking to her, and reached into the reject slot and picked out a 1964 dime, and asked if she would trade it for a quarter. She was happy, and so was I :).

All about the number 64.

After months of looking, I found a 64 dime today.

I used to feel embarrassed checking the machines but now I don't care. A lack of shame seems to be a requirement for CRHing. :)

I have found some silver in the coinstars but more often than not, as a cashier working near one, I get the folks who didn't know what they have. Best find ever?? the 11.70 in silver quarters and dimes that some guy had after a 11:30PM dump at night. Told him three times since it was sunday to take it to the coin shop across the road in the morning and they would give him 100 dollars for it. He didn't listen and I bought it using my mom's money I had. the next day silver jumped to 45 dollars an ounce for one day. He could have gotten over 200 dollars for that silver. I laugh every time I think about it. But you would be surprise at how many people don't look at the reject bin or they have canadian money that they throw away. I have gotten 80% canadian silver quarters and dimes and if someone comes and turns in a voucher, I ask if they want to turn in their canadian for american dollars. ::coughs coughs:: =) I would check the coinstar website, get a listing of your area's coinstars and see if the stores are open 24hours or not, that really helps since a lot of coin returns happen at nighttime. And there aren't a lot of CRHers out at 2am at night. Me I don't go to sleep till 4 am in the morning. and there are 4 coinstars in my area that are at 24 hour stores. Was thinking about spending a whole day at the coinstars, grocery shopping, checking, buying something, checking more.

Sincerely, GarouLady
