Yes I agree you are correct Felipe V
Obverse: [six petal rosette] PHILIPPUS [rosette] V [rosette] D [rosette] G [rosette]

The key here is the coins were heading west toward the New World and not the other way around. I also believe Pistareens minted in Spain have a 20% reduction in value thus may be undersized as compared to coins minted in the Colonies. This would be worth looking into that may explain the sizes.

This is a "new plate" coin minted in Spain. New plate refers to the 20% reduction in the value of reals minted in Spain in relation to the reales minted in colonial Spanish America. This variety of coin was frequently called a "cross" real in the British colonies to distinguish it from the more valuable "pillar" real minted in the Americas.

How many different size coins are there? Could you repeat the sizes? Maybe they are not all minted in Spain.

IF you decide to separate them, I suggest taking them to a certified jeweler. I found a 14K diamond ring at the beach, and it was encrusted much like your coins. I couldn't even tell it was a ring. I'm not sure of the process the jeweler used, but I do think it was placed in an electronic/sonic machine, then polished, etc., and now it looks like the day it came out of the jewelry store. I"m sure you don't want to have the coins polished, but I was thinking more about the separation process. :) Breezie

IMO, if you decide to sell, FIRST attempt to ID each coin and its value, then offer the stack for a price you would be satisfied with; with the understanding no one knows what is in the 'package'. If you don't get your price, THEN consider having the stack dismantled (perhaps professionally), ID-ed, graded and priced out.

If he decides to sell, as an amateur he should not be attempting to set a price. They should be auctioned!

If it were my stack and I intended to sell it at auction, at a minimum, I'd put a reserve price on the stack. There is no need to sell it at auction at a price that is unacceptable; a low-hammered price that might generate a feeling of Angst. If the stack doesn't meet the reserve price, you still have the option of opening the stack and then selling the coins at auction--when the true ID and quality of each coin is known.

sorry for some reason the imgs will not hot link

if this coin in your stack
http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=803741&d=1369659992

is this coin i think your stack is worth a lot of $$$
8 reales silver coin. Philip V. Spain, Seville. P. 1729. RARE.

because if that coin is the rare one from link,a buyer/bidder,would think/hope another is in the stack
i know you asked how to separate, but that might not be a good idea just yet, i know hard to be patient
your doing well though, my thought process would be like a run away freight train

just adding,im not saying your coin is the rare coin, but it sure would give, a buyer/bidder something to think about

Its always good to try and find the value before auction if possible. It may not be possible to determine assayer marks. I think Seville is the mint of Pistrareens.
