Blower (Mailbox) Construction for Our New Boat

Ben,

Chagy, Jason, and Chris (Chagy's son) were busting their bus over the last few days. If you make it down, we would love to meet up and have a drink or two.

Yes, we are subcontractors on the 1715 fleet. The finds have to be turned in every two weeks. Up to now, all we have found is ballast stone, lead sheeting, and olive jar shards. We are close and definitely are in the right area.

Robert

To the crew of the Conquistador, Lobster Mini season is just a week away, have you seen any bugs moving up into the shallow water yet? We are seeing them out in the deeper water, and they look like they are heading closer to shore.

Tom

None that I have seen. There are some pretty good ledges on the reef where we are working in 15' of water and no lobster.

Tom, when is the mini season?

Robert,
I know the question wasn't directed towards me but I believe it is July 25th and 26th ....12 bugs per licensed (salt water fishing license) person. Remember they must be taken in such a way as to release unharmed if not legal ...by hand, bully nets, etc. Carapace must be greater than 3"
"tickle em!"
Looks like it is going very well for you fellows, Hard work pays off!

Sporstmans season is those dates, and regular season starts Aug 6th and runs until March 31st. Lynn and I saw a bunch over on the West coast the other day. They were in 60 ft of water. Most of them here are not in shallow water. We have them punched into the GPS! Robert, have you heard how the prop repair is going? I plan on getting over, but didnt know what was going on, if they needed a hand or if its working or not.

The prop is off, the wheel man should have us ready by 6pm. As soon as I get the prop, I'm scooting back to Sebastian and putting it on. The new electrical panel / shore power isolation switch is in and the new outlets are wired. Next....HOOKAH. Once the fiberglass is finished and painted, and the hookah is functional, we'll be able to get out more quickly and more often. We should be on the water this weekend, I know Chagy and GDaddy are planning to come.

Jason

hi guys,
y'all have been doing a great job, with the conquistador, just wanted to remind you to watch the zincs, now that you've added more types of metal to the boat and check for current leakage when on shore power. and some zinc plugs in some of the engine water jacket ports will extend the life of the day tanks and heat exchangers.
seems like when you get close to Neptune's bounty, little things seem to keep you shore locked. :) :)

did you guys have to pull the boat out of the water to get the prop off?or did you do it underwater in that nasty 1/4" vis?i know i got some pretty hard wacks on it,it seemed to have moved about 1/4 inch.my port engine is down in my boat.the oil cooler developed a leak.i took it off got it here.sunday morning im doing a pressure test on it with hot oil.it may have a small crack in it,ill just solder it back up.plus i have a new raw water riser that i made to put on since i have the heat exchanger apart.plus its time to put the new raw water pump on the port engine as well.the life of the 35 yr old pump is at its end.last week we got alot of work done at the marina.pulled 3 giant pilings that the DEP wanted removed.plus raised the sunken 30 foot pelican that was out by the island.its now on a lift at the marina an is up for grabs.would make a nice treasure boat with the addition of a diesel engine.its a 1970 chris craft commander.see or call the dockmaster paul at finns marina in sebastian if anyone wants it.otherwise it may end up at the dump soon.heres a pic of the pelican.

Thanks for the words Joe, we're making progress slowly but surely, and learning a lot along the way. We got out yesterday for several hours before the lightening ran us off. We're on a really interesting spot, and tons of ballast and pottery, just haven't stumbled onto the gold yet. LOL

John, we got the prop off underwater, it just took a little more "finessing". Thanks for the help, did you get the generator off the other boat, or do you still need some additional muscle. Give me a hollar if you need some help, i was underwater when you tried to call the other day.

We're hoping to get out tomorrow morning, weather permitting. Luis has some more pics to post soon too.

Jason

the generator is still on the guys boat.me an 4 other big guys tryed to lift it out of the engine room before i left on thursday.it didnt budge it must weigh 700lbs.so i need to build a engine lift that will fit thru his cabin door.something like a A frame with one of my winches.im gonna modify a roll cage i got for my truck.its 3 inch steel tube.i just have to cut it in half an make it so i can put a tube in the middle after i put it back together in his cabin.have to get it out of the room an onto the floor.ill get him to take it to sebastian marina to lift it out with the forklift into my truck.this way no one gets hurt.and it doesnt end up in the water.ill have to make some engine mounts for the gen then have your marine fork it onto my boat an drop it in the engine room.mine is a straight shot right thru the door then down.ill be back down there sometime next week after i get the engine lift done.my oil cooler is sitting in a nice hot ultrasonic bath right now getting nice and clean.

Well the "Conquistador" is ready again..... We only got to go out one day this weekend due to the weather...
We found a few more pieces of pottery and lots of ballast stones.....we did get a big hit with the pulse 8X but the weather went bad and we had to leave before we could get to it....(Dont you hate it when that happens)
Here are some pics.........

I am glad you got the prop fixed and are getting back out. I hope the weather clears soon. I am looking forward to the day when I can get down there to meet you guys. Good Luck.

Well, Robert, Dick and Tom are out again today. They left the dock at 8:00 to investigate some mag hits we got during a survey yesterday. Tom (GDaddy) and I just returned from Naples / Bonita beach working on a survey down there with some crazy Texans. We had a blast, and are glad to be back "home". I'm picking up Laura from the airport this morning, and we along with most of the ARRG gang will be at the Treasure Expo (Saturday afternoon-evening mostly). Rob Westrick is giving a great presentation, hope to see you all there.

Jas

Well, we finished all the improvements on the Conquistador. And since we couldn't afford the slip anymore, we made it trailerable as well.

Here's the pic...

LOL. That would be so cool to see going down I-95!

We will be getting out again this weekend. With the expo last week and all the other activity, we've been stuck at the dock. :( I got out with the guys from HRD for some beach diving the other day, it was fun. I also had a nice visit from Leebo (and his two boys Will and Wes). We had a blast, and hopefully next time we can go out diving. They did some beach hunting, and stopped by the boat each night for dinner and a few laughs. See you guys next time.

I've been tied up at the museum, Bill Moore has been off a lot lately, so it leaves me in command of the conservation lab. What a great group of people the Fisher's have here. Some day I'll post some pics of what happens after the artifacts are turned in, I'm sure that would make an interesting thread.

We'll post pics of the weekends events, and hopefully we'll find some more treasure as well.

Jason

We had a great time visiting with you each night. I can not wait to get back down there. The treasure bug has got ahold of me big time now. The kids had a blast. I hope to see you really soon.
