2011 DUTCH HUNTERS RENDEZVOUS

Re: 2011 DUTCH HUNTER'S RENDEZVOUS

Been there, enjoyed the company. Missed meeting BB if he was there. Met the Oro's, Bob Corbin, Joe, Sam, Carol and Ann and others. Going back this afternoon to the campfire and planned speakers. I'm with GlennAZ, trap shut and ears open works best for me. Hardly ever learn new stuff while my lips are flappin............. :) Did pick up a nice unbound book regarding the Superstitions and the Lost Dutchman Mine. Right or wrong, the book will surely add to my almost zero detail knowledge of the area. Listened to some of Joe going over his explanation of the stone maps and how he's plotted them, then found what he was expecting at specific points on the map. It was fascinating, but I realized that with congestive heart failure, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease there was not much chance I'd be hiking into the mountains any time soon.

Finally got so tired I packed up my chairs, slid them in my truck and came home for a good nights sleep. Definitely going back today for the speakers and the campfire. Should be an enjoyable day. Be Blessed!

Hat's off to Joe and everyone else that coordinates and holds these gatherings. The stew was great as well as the amazing salad selection. Thanks for letting us 'newbies' join y'all!

Re: 2011 DUTCH HUNTER'S RENDEZVOUS

g'afternoon Bill. thanks for the up date. but tell me, did / does Beth actually make up for oro?

A great gathering! Joe put himself out big time. Thanks Joe! Yes BB made it but let's let him tell his story. I give him credit. I spent the weekend talking to the old and new dutchhunters. Made some new friends. The Dons camp is a very interesting place.

Re: 2011 DUTCH HUNTER'S RENDEZVOUS

As a mostly-lurker on the site and first time attendee to the LDM rendezvous, I want to say thanks to everyone for being so welcoming and friendly.
Even those with which I had differing views on some items from the real world, we were able to have polite and spirited discussions and shake hands with genuine smiles afterwards. That, as a man who was raised in the South, is a large part of what it means to say someone is "good people."
I had a great time talking with folks and listening to their stories and theories. Spending some time in the lost art of conversation and passing of oral history to me, as a younger generation, was the best part for me. The old timers like Baker Looney, Tom Collenborn, The Dr (again with names...), Ernie, and others whose names escape me, but whose faces are indellibly marked into my brain, really helped to push more old knowledge out as it was replaced with some new. Thank you all so much!
Randy and Ralph - thanks for the laughs. Poor Ralph now has a fear of plastic water bottles LOL

The presentation of gifts from Barker, the only survivng member of the original expedition, to "those who have honored him" was touching - not sure who was touched more in those exchanges. The map passed around and the story of how the three hikers were found (and the graphic pics I was amazed by) as well as the topic and Q&A from Superstition Search and rescue definitely kept my interest. I will supply the wireless mic and speakers next year! Just add 120VAC and all the other old timers will be able to hear it all. I just challenge you all to gather such an awesome group again!
The unbound book - wow, that has been a great read so far and I look forward to separating all the pages to read it "cover to cover" :read2:

Joe and his lovely wife and the others (I'm horrible with names) really kicked some tail on putting out a spread. By the way, I believe it was Joe's MOM who did the Italian sausage gravy? My God - as good as my momma and wife make it!!!
Ken with his green tape and use of his grill to support Joe's was much appreciated. Enjoy the little bit more depth from getting your coil wire straightened out. Glad to pass on a tidbit I got from more experienced folks than I - what it's all about.

I will certainly be a repeat offender and hope to be able to, one day, pass on my oral history to the next generation.

BB, this is not any sort of affront to you, please take it as the compliment it is: You are a true believer in your convictions, and that demands a bit of respect. I must say, though, you are much easier to follow in person than on here. This may be in large part because so many posts disappear. Keep hunting and researching... you never know!

Finally, thanks to my buddy, Frank (SGTFDA) for letting me know about this, helping me out, and just being a damned great guy and friend!

Re: 2011 DUTCH HUNTER'S RENDEZVOUS

I managed to miss BB. I was on site after he left to hike, and I somehow managed to be elsewhere when he returned. I am truly sorry I missed the chance, but the rest of the extravaganza was great. Thanks for being so accommodating to us new folks. I'll probably never make a hike into the supers, but I'll sure be trying to get back to these events from now on. Pleasure meeting those I did meet and talk to and my loss for the folks I failed to meet. Maybe next year. Thanks again to Joe and all the organizers and participants that made this meet so interesting!

Re: 2011 DUTCH HUNTER'S RENDEZVOUS

Seems as though everyone that has posted so far had a great time at the Rendezvous.

I'm hoping everyone had a safe trip and a safe return home!

Sooo, what is the story? Did BB find what he was looking for and prove that he found the mine??

Too bad no one videotaped the get together. I sure would have loved to hear some of the interesting stories and theories.

:coffee2:, with a nice shot of Bailey's added.

Re: 2011 DUTCH HUNTER'S RENDEZVOUS

I think we should let BB tell his story. Come on BB.

Re: 2011 DUTCH HUNTER'S RENDEZVOUS

Gentlemen,

Here's something for you to laugh off.......

bb's location is in the exact spot that Chuck Crawford claimed to have found a church treasure cache. :o It is said that he used the proceeds of that cache to continue his treasure hunting career.
Maybe bb was actually on to something.

Take care,

Joe

Re: 2011 DUTCH HUNTER'S RENDEZVOUS

This was a great event , and i'm glad I found the time to come this weekend, even though it was a spur of the moment/ last minute thing. I just wish I could have stayed longer than planned, and showed up earlier than I did. But oh well, stuff happens, I will be able to plan better for the next rendezvous. I want to thank people for the hospitality and the great conversations/stories(sgtfda , mr and mrs oro, randy, GlennAZ, Ken, and a few others that names have slipped my mind) . Also, i want to thank all the folks for being so friendly...and truly making this a great family event. As GlennAZ said, the biscuits and gravy were awesome, I also liked the 5 layer dip(whoever made that), and I want to also thank sgtfda for the sandwhiches he made for folks after the tour, that was good eatin. I didnt get to talk to BBowman myself (which i did wanted to meet him actually) , but I am curious to hear how trek turned out/hear his story. And also cudos to Joe and all the folks who helped make this event what it was.(including the fellow who gave the tour of the ranch) Well, i'm already lookin forward to next years event, and thanks for all who showed up. This was definitely good times.

Re: 2011 DUTCH HUNTER'S RENDEZVOUS

Hello,

It was my first time at this event, and I didn't get to spend as much time as I would have liked to, but it was nice to put faces with the personalities I've met online. Thanks for the great conversation and the hospitality shown to a newcomer! I met some great people and heard some great stories.
Thanks guys!

Unless it was a secret ,anyone researching might come across that information.sure would be an easy out by saying darn it someone else got it first.Sorry... no sympathy for anyone who boasted and degraded people for their beliefs the way he does.

Welcome to this site as well as the Rendezvous, a first for both as I see it.

It takes attendees as well as those who supply the goodies to make for a great event such as this one was. Those of you who weren't able to get there this year were missed by many of us who did.

I'm still getting my wind back (I just couldn't force myself to go to sleep when Bob Corbin is still talking) so probably won't be posting much until I can get a little more rest and some photos ready to be included.

Re: 2011 DUTCH HUNTER'S RENDEZVOUS

Allan,

You could be right, but it took some cahonies for bb to actually show up at the Rendezvous and try to prove his theories. An interesting sideplay was when Alin Tree Horvaka walked up, asked where's he going, and after bb pointed it out said "I'm out of here" and walked away.

Tree had been all over that area and knew the Chuck Crawford story.

It was a great Rendezvous, with more first time old timers, and way more participants than ever before. Many people pitched in with labor, food, water and ice. Ken drove up in a U-Haul truck with all of the above plus a large gas BBQ and his Quad.

I want to thank everyone for lending a hand and making the Rendezvous a huge success. Carolyn made the dip and mom and I made the stew. The home made biscuit's and Italian Sausage Gravy is made by my mom every year. That fare has become a tradition, started at the very first Rendezvous.

There will be more pictures to follow. bb was treated with respect and allowed to present his case, just as I said he would. He came back after his hike in, with his young Army buddy and said he was wrong, and the only thing there was a hole in the ground that was full of rocks. I assume that was Crawford's old dig.

Take care,

Joe

Re: 2011 DUTCH HUNTER'S RENDEZVOUS

To all,

Just a note to say thanks for attending the Rendezvous this year. There were many first-timers such as GlenAZ, sgtfda, bill-usa, BlindBowman, Gossamer, Loke (from Norway) and BenThereDoneThat as well as many others that I am at a loss to remember each of their names although I think I got a picture or two of them at least.

Right now I am in the process of reading their profiles to get to know them better. (this is gonna take some time for sure)

Re: 2011 DUTCH HUNTER'S RENDEZVOUS

I agree, it did take a set to go ! I wonder if that set is large enough to give out a few apologies that should be given out ? I want to hear about the event , lets see more pictures and stories ! How cold was it at night ? I am making plans now for next year

Re: 2011 DUTCH HUNTER'S RENDEZVOUS

Joe that was the best stew I ever tasted!

Re: 2011 DUTCH HUNTER'S RENDEZVOUS

Frank,

Many thanks for the stewkudos :D

My mom is the real cook, while I do as much of the grunt work as I can. It usually turns out pretty good, but we also thought this years effort matched the event.

Thanks again,

Joe

Hi Joe.

Is there anywhere to read more of the Chuck Crawford story and where his cache was found?

Thank you in advance kind Sir.

Re: 2011 DUTCH HUNTER'S RENDEZVOUS

Cyg,

Don't know if it talks about Bowman's site, but you can read about Chuck here:

http://blackbartbetrayed.com/THE CMP/index.html

There are probably more places with information on Crawford, but I have never had enough interest in the man to pursue his history. No doubt, that is my loss.

Good luck,

Joe
