2011 DUTCH HUNTERS RENDEZVOUS

Re: 2011 DUTCH HUNTER'S RENDEZVOUS

laces will cut bars just fine??

Re: 2011 DUTCH HUNTER'S RENDEZVOUS

Only 11-days left 'til the Rendezvous.

If anyone has a gas BBQ on wheels that they can bring out to camp, that would be handy as the number of people who are showing up makes for some time consuming cooking on my unit.

Other than that, some ice and firewood is always welcome. Make sure to remember your camp chairs.

Any Questions? :help:

Joe

Joe - if you'll supply me with a chair, I'll bring along lots of ice and water

Re: 2011 DUTCH HUNTER'S RENDEZVOUS

Paul,

That's a done deal. Actually, I think you brought a little beach chair a few years ago, and I still have it. We always have a few extra chairs, but they all seem to get used up. I expect a bigger crowd this year, so we will have to put our names on our chairs. :D

Take care,

Joe

Re: 2011 DUTCH HUNTER'S RENDEZVOUS

Hey Joe your beginning to sound like the Germans on holiday in Spain they use their towels to claim the deck chairs, :)
anyway guys have a good meeting and who knows i might make it over there in a year or two to meet some of you,
Hopefully before i need a zimmer frame,

Regards John

Evening Natchitoches: you posted --> laces will cut bars just fine??

*************
Yes my friend, one merely greases or waxes a shoe lace, or cord, then rubs concrete dust into it, then passes it around the bar, then commence sawing away. It isn't very fast, and each night you have to cover up your progressive cut with soap colored to match the bars.

To an extent it is an off shoot of the old mud saw for gem stones

This is why in San Quentin we had to run along the bars with a stick listening to the sound. A cut, or partially cut bar has a different sound. Almost always it was a bottom bar that was cut.

We had to weld many a bar,

"We"had to weld? ??? Are you sure you didn't mean to say "they"? How did you learn how effective the shoelace method really was? ??? :icon_scratch: :dontknow: :h

I've HEARD of using a wet string and cleanser or toothpaste... smaller and easier to hide. They put a second bar inside the outer bar using ball bearings on the inner bar to stop that little trick from working. The string cuts through the outer bar but the inner bar just spins.
As a teenager, I used to deliver food to the jails in both Pinellas County and Clearwater, Florida.

Gentlemen , excluding that Dakotoite: First, I was a Guard, Honest, until they accepted my resignation under protest. Long interesting story here similar to being a whistle blower in those days.

second, we would always make the rounds at least once each shift or 24 hrs before the final nightly countdown. walking down the row of cells with a club in contact with the bars as we walked, similar to the kiddie that attaches a bit of plastic to the bike wheels to simulate an engine.

Third, Any home made adhesive or super glue readily available in most hobby shop instutions to it's guests, injected into the first part of the cut will lock in any moveable inner sleeve, ball bearings etc. So one then can happily saw away.

Gentlemen,

I am at a loss to figure out what possible connection you can draw between your posts and the Rendezvous. I would prefer that we confine ourselves, in this topic, to the topic.

Respectfully,

Joe

Re: 2011 DUTCH HUNTER'S RENDEZVOUS

Just went on a jaunt up the road to the Peralta trail head. Not 100% where the Dons camp is, but I explored side roads not marked as off limits.
Road is in good condition with only a couple potholes just past the "77" marker on the right. Just hug the left in that corner and you'll miss 'em.
Other than that there's only a couple sandy spots that won't slow ya and some good washboarding.

There is some road construction on the US60 that could add a lot of time to your return to Phoenix.

EDIT: Now that I've looked at the maps again, I can see where the Dons camp is. I was actually in the parking lot and wondered what was down that road with the buildings at the end. Now I know.
There was a sign for "Lost Gold Trail" as you turn into that lot and a Superstition Wilderness Trail System kiosk in the parking lot, as well as a lone porta john on the South side of said lot.

The State Trust Land sign mentioned previously is there and is not the normal 14"x10" boundary sign. This sucker is big (4'x6' or more) and is facing the direction of travel on the right side of the road. It states that all land past that point is state trust land and requires a permit ($20 for the year for a family, $15 for individual). That would be true from that sign point to the Tonto Nat'l Forest boundary.
For those not from here: Being that State Trust Land is actually privately owned by the state, and the fine can be stiff ($500 or more), be hyper aware of what you are doing. With the writeup in the local paper, the Police may be out there.
The road is a right of way, though. Stay on the designated road(s) and you won't have any issues. You so much as set foot on the shoulder (not a county-owned right of way, as posted) and you can face a fine.

What I did find interesting is that the Peralta trail head parking is actually PAST the official wilderness boundary. Doesn't that go against the tree hugging fools' constitution??!!

See you all on Friday! I'm the younger (comparatively speaking, I guess lol) bald guy in a white dually with orange lettering... Stop by and say Hi. I'm looking forward to sitting there with trap shut and ears open.

Re: 2011 DUTCH HUNTER'S RENDEZVOUS

Well, 11:17pm and I'm all packed and heading to bed for a few hours of sleep. Catching the 6am direct flight to Phoenix and should be in the mountains tomorrow well before noon AZ time if all goes well.

Gonna spend Thursday night and 1/2 or so of Friday in the mountains, but should get to the Don's camp by dinnertime Friday night.

Looking forward to seeing some old friends and meeting some new folks as well.

Cya soon.
