I was planning in purchasing a Vaquero, but, not if it is not water proof.

Besides waterproof what detector company has been all that innovative besides garrett? The at pro/gold machines have been the only ones to come out in the last few years that changed the bar in the priceline. Ergonomics is the only thing I can see that any of them have done outside that to make there detectors more appealing. You only have 4 inland waterproof detectors to choose from at pro/gold, tesoro tigers hark and ctx 3030. The latter being 2400 bucks. Tesoro has a player in that catagory in the tigershark. In the seperation department very few detectors can match a tesoro in iron laden sites. The Vaquero and tejon are two of the deepest machines made. I have one old homestead site that has that I have recovered many nice old coins and relics from with the vaquero and tejon. This site is littered with iron, bits of tin flakes, 22 bullet casings etc. Went back over it with the deus, f 75 and racer and found only bullet casings. The Vaquero or tejon with the 5.75 concentric in these types of sites will pretty much clean them out of anything good so that tells you something about the detectors and how well they work.
Have ANY of the "new" additions or "improvements" REALLY made a difference in VHF technology since 1990? Can your F75, AT Pro, or T2 find ANYTHING a Tesoro Vaquero won't? Is their recovery time or discrimination ANY better? My experience is absolutely not.
In my opinion...absolutely those additions and improvements have made a difference. New digital machines are using processors that were not available in the 90's. Faster...smaller...new discrimination and identification algorithms. In a trashy site I will take a new VDI machine over an ancient dial twister from the 90's any day. Why would I want to thumb a dial to play the guessing game when technology provides me the means to just glance at a screen with great accuracy. Multiple notches...multiple tones...numerical identification WITH decimals on some machines. It really is a night and day difference in my opinion...

So you are letting the machine "guess" for you? Sounds good to me. That means there will be a lot of gold left in the ground for Tesoro users living near you.
The myth that VDI's are inaccurate and that the new machines don't have better discrimination in trashy areas is just about played out.
