I need some help. My computer seems to accumulate hundreds of Adware Tracking cookies in only a few minutes. It will accumulate over 500 in about 15 minutes until my laptop freezes up. I keep running my SuperAntiSpyware and it removes them but they keep coming back. I have never had this many tracking cookies in so short of a time period.

Is this a Virus? What can I do to fix it?

I tried to restore but it says Restoration Incomplete Your computer cannot be restored.

Can anybody help? Any suggestions? I am not the best with computers but I have restored in the past to an earlier date and removed viruses in the past by searching the virus name on another laptop but I dont know what to search for. Why cant I restore? thanks.

I have Windows XP.

Bigcypresshunter, Glad to see you worked it out. Just for reference anyone who uses Chrome should check their extensions ...Not only can it Slooooooow down browsing but Adware can hide there so heres how to do it.

Top right Corner of the Browser is the X button which you use to close the browser right below that should be a Star button so you can Add favorites to your bookmarks just to the right of the Star is an options box it's just 3 lines.....click on that the dropdown menu will appear find Settings. Click on it and a Window will Appear. to the left there are options you will see Extensions. Click on Extensions and it will show all your Extensions that you may or may not know of. Each one of these Extensions can be Anabled/disabled or Deleted. I have no Extensions because of the slow Webpage loading that it creates.

Everyone has different Tastes but there is not a single Extension i can think of to have Enabled here. Hope it helps. Glad you got it working.

My brother says setting Chrome back to default removes the extensions. Is this true?

But I will check my extensions. Sounds like good advice. Thanks for the information

I have one extension: Google Docs

Ok the problem came back 150 Adwares. Google Doc is my only extension. I may remove it.

Im going to try some of the other suggestions but Im not foolin with this all day.

My brother agrees I have a file that keeps causing these Adwares. He suggested Spybot for removal so Im gonna try that first. He also says do not download anything without checking with him first.

And he say SuperAntiSpyware is good. Thats not the problem.

Have you checked your programs? You may find some crazy program sitting there that is causing this. You can often times uninstall it and it will go away. Sometimes not though... but I think it is worth a try.

Sorry I didn't see this sooner. You need to run an external virus scan. I've used different ones but Trend was the one I used last. I know microsoft has one also but try this Free Online Virus Scan - Antivirus Software - Trend Micro USA You will need to dnld the extention and then let it do the work. If you have a virus that has obviously infected your pc then this has worked every time for me. Basically it scans your pc from their lab. AVG isn't really a good product anymore since it has gone over seas, they don't cut it. So do the scan, see what happens, and then if it finds the virus, you will need a new company and Trend or PcCillin is a good company. When ever you think you have a virus that keeps coming back, an external scan will be the first thing to do. Especially if Restore has been compromised.

Another thing is that with an older pc, many virus protection softwares will be too new and fast for your pc. So many could slow yours to a crawl. But Trend has always worked for a mid grade protector. I use Kaspersky and I am really happy with it but it may be to fast for your older pc. So be sure to research the brands and find one that doesn't bog down your xp

Too many different suggestions and opinions. Its gonna take time for me to sort through them. My brother says everyone has their personal favorites and it becoming very apparent.

...,Download combofix ComboFix | freeware
My brother doesnt recommend this one. Like you say be careful very powerful. My brother says it could ruin your whole computer.

Im running Spybot now. Its very good. If it doesnt work, I have a thought that SuperAntiSpyware may be corrupted. Ill remove it and re-install.

BigCypress,

I just caught this thread. I have not read any of the previous posts. I know there is some new revenge software out there that people who are computer savvy can target others with. Have you made any new enemies or called anybody a troll? If you can figure out who might have sent it to you then that would lead to an identification to help you get rid of it.

Good luck, I had a nasty virus in 1999 that wiped my whole computer. Clicked on a button, fire works went off, and hasta la vista.

Please do NOT delete this thread. It contains computer "fix" info which some of us non-computer-savvy users need to learn to do. My thanks go to each of you who contributed some of the information.

BCH, I had the exact same problem as you. I have an 8 year old desktop with XP.
I used to run SuperAntiSpyware once or twice a week and it would find about 50 items. Then, about 2 weeks ago, it went crazy, finding 600 every few minutes. I have CCleaner, SuperAnti and AVG. I kept running them, and couldn't keep up with the amount I was getting.
I downloaded the latest updates for the 3 programs, then I went to safe mode, and ran them all, and AVG found a virus. I deleted the virus, and everything is back to normal.
How do you get to advanced settings on AVG, I can't find it.

What firewall are you using?
Also XP is no longer supported by Microsoft...so....without security updates the XP OS is going to be an easier target.

Ha Ha. Well yes there are some people that dont like the IDs I have made and one particular member tried to give me a hard time. Actually 2 members.. But I would never think that a TN member would try to make it personal and take it to the next level. I hope there is no truth to what you are suggesting. I am not afraid if this person continues with his revenge. I will not be bullied.

Well I believe I have been threatened here on Treasurenet. This is not the first time as it has happened to me before. I never take it personal when trying to ID an artifact. I call it as I see it and I dont dislike anybody. But some people do not like my style.

When someone continues to harass me, I push back (thus the troll comment). Everyone has their breaking point. Although I am not afraid, I think its best that I stay away. I think its extremely rude and childish to suggest someone may be trying ruin my life or give me a virus because they dont like an ID I made. Thats really suggesting low life. And I find it hard to believe.

Thev only way a Tnet member could give you a virus is sending you an email and you opening it or,your computer being connected to theirs by networking together or,you were sent a usb drive and you plugged it into your comp.
