ok,
I'm going to give you an idea to try to open t.
I think it may very well be some sort of makeup case, but it does look to heavy for that.
Really would like to know what it is.
Put on a pair of those rubber coated garden gloves.
Get a small piece of dry ice and have it handy.
I get mine at the grocery store.
With a plumbing torch heat the longer end good and hot
Put the small end on the dry ice and freeze it.
Grab the two ends with the gloves and try to twist them off.
With all the soaking you have done I think this should work.
Good Luck
YepIts a makeup tube most likely holds mascara or eyeliner, they are not screwed together, they pull apart. That's the only makeup container that I can remember that came like that.
I actually have one exactly the same undug. My grandmother gave it to me. I cant find it at the moment but I may have posted it here years ago. I can give you my best guess because mine opens.
Im sorry I cant remember but I think mine was screw top. Its all brass including the built in dabber thing. Next time I get out to my storage warehouse I will search for it. I saved it because it was unique and unusual.Cool. Bed you are right. Just a pressure fit right? No screw top?
Yeah....you also said they are not screwed together, they pull apart. Before that your guess was a fishing weight....just saying.
My guess is torpedo fishing weight:

It looks like there is a rusted eye in this photo... but why would they use a metal that rust. Anyway that's what it looks like in my old eyes:
