Thought it was a bullet of some sort at first.
Fishing weight maybe?
Plumb bob?

I guess. I thought that too but made of brass? Has I line around it where the fishing line could have gone. No eyelets so that would have to be the way it was secured.

I don't think it's fishing related. Does it unscrew where that line is?

It looks like there is a rusted eye in this photo... but why would they use a metal that rust. Anyway that's what it looks like in my old eyes:

Could be a plumb bob - but it does not look quite right. Looks as though the one end might unscrew, going by photo.

I don't know what it is, but it is very interesting.

And your avatar terrifies me.

Haha. No indication of a rusted eyelet on ether side. It does look to unscrew but don't want to force it. Doesn't weight anywhere close to a fishing weight of this size.

No sign of rusted eyelet. Very smooth.

Wooden match holder?

;) guess I'm going to try to see if it unscrews.

Interesting, does it feel hollow by the weight, or solid brass? Anything rattling around inside?
Matchstick or toothpick case is a good guess. Happy Hunting, Sub 8-)

I'm gonna go waaaayyyyy out on a limb here and say it is very possibly a "blank" fishing lure. Have you tried to see if it will float?
The reason I say this is I once was an antique fishing lure collector and have bought many old tackle boxes filled with stuff from
estate sales. A couple of these boxes co
ntained "many" blanks where the fisherman could design his own lure. That would account
for the brass coating. Some lures are made a little on the heavy side so they will sink when pulled by fisherman through the water.
Others were made to float on top such as a popping bug. The line around it resembles where they would paint the head and then
"scale paint" the body. In those boxes were the eyelets with the screw threads for tying your line to. I have never found one myself
while detecting but if it hit like a dime or quarter it is probably a soft lead. I have a book on these things too and there are blanks
in there that are valuable in good condition and without holding it in my hand, that's what I would say it is as it is the exact shape
of some of those blanks.

Weight is just under 50 grams. Tried to unscrew the top without any luck without possible damage. Top looks to un-screw or maybe press fitted on.

Recalibrated weight at about 25 grams.
