Obviously we all share a mutual interest in silver, but I'm curious what other hobbies people are involved in?

I'll go first. I am really into playing poker. When I graduated from college in 2008 I actually spent a couple of years playing poker for a living, playing online on PokerStars and Full Tilt. I am also a bit of a "cork dork" as I have an interest in wines (mostly reds though).

So what else are you guys (and gals) passionate about?

Thanks. If you want a big bluefin head to oregon inlet in the OBX March-April. They are wrapping up their season now. Bluefin fishing in the OBX blows away the fishery they have in new england. The day that picture is from we had 11 bites and got nine to the boat in 4 hours of fishing. That was our smallest fish of the day and the only legal one we caught (72" on the nose).

Was going to plan a trip to hatteras. Next year.

I also love to travel. Going to amsterdam this summer for the 6th time and going to see the 100th Tour de France on Bastille day on top of mont ventoux. Then heading to Scotland to see the brittish open. Only wish I could have funded the trip with CRH profits but for now will just have to keep working.

working (45-60 hours) retail

old classic car shows
poker/sports betting (online) - quit though since am in the US
casinos - atlantic city (try to go every other month)
concerts/movies/comedy shows
sports - play and watch pretty much all
any thing out doors to get exercise
dinner with my mom an/or sister few times a week

Is there a lot of silver in the British coins? What languages do you write in? I putz around on Code Academy every now and then, it's fun. Can you elaborate on the anarcho-capilast theory? I was an econ major and that sounds interesting.

The main things that I like about British coins are:

1) You can get a lot older coins for CHEAP, you can get low-grade hammered coins for little more than scrap silver, for example I keep a Charles I Shilling in my pocket as a pocket piece, it was minted in the 1640s and I picked it up on ebay for $10, or about $3-4 over scrap at that time (you can't buy an Eagle today for less than that over spot!)

2) All the references are in English and so its a lot easier to understand than something like German coins or ancient coins which have references written in Italian/French/German/English/Portuguese depending on the subject

3) There's stuff for every budget, I can get a simple circulated monarch set from Victoria-Elizabeth II for a couple of bucks and even a set of George I-Elizabeth II is reasonable in low grade. But on the other hand, there's coins with only a handful known, stuff like the Petition Crown, rare proof sets with mintages in the hundreds or tens and even unique pieces.

4) You can be as broad or as narrow as you'd like. You can collect just one example from each monarch, one of every denomination, or you can specialize just in one series such as bun head pennies.

But yes, there's a lot of silver, anywhere from silver Celtic units that are 2000 some odd years old, to medieval silver pennies, to early milled silver, to even modern maundy or silver proof sets. Sterling silver was the standard up until 1920 when it changed to 50% silver until 1947 when it was changed to copper-nickel for circulation coins (but silver coins are still struck for collector issues)

As for coding languages I mostly do Java, but I do dabble in Python and a couple other languages.

As for anarcho-capitalist theory it basically states that the services currently provided by the state (defense, etc.) could be provided by the free market instead. Murray Rothbard is considered to be the real founder of the movement, but there are several others. The Mises Institute is probably the best economic reference for Anarcho-Capitalist theory Ludwig von Mises Institute : The Austrian School Is Advancing Liberty

This is a good Thread. I do auctions for anything I can turn over for a profit, old advertising signs for my own collection, study the Bible, restore things I can make money on or occupy my winter time with.

My beautiful girlfriend, my coin collection (I don't just collect silver coins), video games, TV shows, movies, food, music (listening and collecting LPs, singles, and CDs), selling (and buying) on eBay, and CRHing. There isn't much else I do, lol.

Wow thanks for the awesome post! I studied Latin for three years in high school so I have a solid foundation for Romance languages. That being said, I tried to learn Italian after I had learned Spanish and for some reason it didn't seem as intuitive to me as Spanish. I might take that up again, the more languages the better I think.

English is technically a Germanic language so I can see the parallels there. I could see learning German as a conduit to landing a great job over there at some point, I have been to Hamburg and Berlin and really enjoyed myself. I have dual citizenship with the E.U. and U.S. so living over there (or somewhere else I could use a European language) is a hope of mine.

If that is your background, you can definitely figure out Italian! If your time permits, you should try to stick with it. Spend time with vocabulary first. When comparing Italian to Spanish, this comparison will help you start to crack the system. In Italian, what helped me the most was paying close attention to the spelling, the sounds, and how I could make similarities/draw connections between the two languages in my head. It's almost as if you try to justify or explain why the two differ from one another. In Italian, the spelling is a big thing. I remember understanding the system of spelling, learning a pretty good amount of vocabulary and then I was practically there. The grammar structure of the two languages is a nearly identical system. You already know much more of it than you realize. Try using flash cards, that helped me immensely. I almost always carry around 20 or so flash cards with me for vocabulary. You would be surprised how many spare seconds there are during the day.

Not true, its like eating vitamins and nutrients by the boat load that taste like bacon, because he wins almost every single time. tim of zim loves making money, incase you are wondering "how", well it comes primarily from playing craps/slots.

Awesome thread ppl!! I mesh well with most of you!

- Firearms
- prepping/survivalism
- gardening(in my 3rd year of all of these top 3, didnt really have any interest until I woke up to the real world we live in)
- Online Poker was huge for me until US closed down, I played pro for about a year in 07, live play in AC... Did real well online, but spent alot of the winnings. I do currently play 5$ and less SNG's at bovada poker(used to be bodog).

Those are my main interests currently, I stay away from TV, I watch very few shows online, without the commercials which are my main beef with TV and the brainwashing of the masses. Walking dead, Revolution, Sons of Anarchy, and Raising Hope are the only TV shows I watch. I also dont bother much with gaming, I used to be a huge gamer though... WOW/UO/CSS to name a few. Only console games I really like are Final Fantasy series, or a few other random shooters.

Enjoy tons of stuff outdoors, metal detecting, hiking, 4 wheeling etc...

Peace yall

People don't make money at craps & slots - the casinos do. Tim makes his $ the old fashioned way: he works his *ss off!

Guns, sports, women

Joe's just about nailed it. i love watching sports, bears, hawks, bulls, and cubs (although this year is already tough to watch) should make for some cheap ticket prices.

Ive been shooting ever since i was about 16. Illinois should be getting some kind of ccw soon so ive been paying attention to whats going on there. Sadly i got charged with a felony (theft) at my buddies bachelor party a year ago next month, yes i was hammered. The prosecutor will hopefully be dropping the case soon though. but in the mean time cant be purchasing anymore guns. so much for innocent until proven guilty. sucks cuz i bought an m&p 9mm right before it happened so its still sitting at my ffl dealer's.

other then that i like playing poker as well, im not great but its fun to get together with the guys n play. also like to shoot hoops, have a catch, or just lounge outside have a cigar and listen to some sports talk radio.

At least the Hawks are doing well.

Nice, I used to play on Merge too. Now I'm on Intertops but I'm about to move to a different skin on Merge.

Move to America's cardroom trust me. Software isn't as appealing but the support and cash outs are so much better (faster) and the games are WAAAY softer good luck! Keep in touch!
