I’m sure this neighborhood park is a virgin park. I’ve been trying to figure out a safe way to get in there. It’s surrounded by homes from the 1900-1940’s. I decided to try this route and if approached I’ll tell them I work for the city and I’m doing tests to put in a FREE pool for the summer. IMG_2195.JPGIMG_2196.JPG

I detect the Baltimore hood often enough. Funny thing I was detecting an old lot next to a school and got some Buffs and Merc dimes earliest was 1917. The neighbors actually called the cops on me. Whatever happened to " I don't call 911 lol. Apparently I was doing such a great job filling my holes they told the police I was " burying things in the park".
The cop was super nice and said I didn't need to leave but he suggested I should as it was getting late and the area is dangerous. He was interested in my finds and my safety. I was happy to have an escort out of the neighborhood until I made it the two blocks home and realized I live in the ghetto lol. The next time I came back early in the am which is definitely the move 7-11am . I do notice the super fiends go for their fix early but they are a bit more debilitated at this early hour.
Someone was super interested in my diggings and pulled out all my plugs and left them laying next to the holes. I guess they were hoping I was burying drugs or treasure in the hood lol. I had to spend twenty minutes fixing all my holes again! Nightmare.
I've never had a problem except people being super interested in what I am doing. It is good to have someone with you and don't do it if you aren't comfortable. I live and work in these areas and aside from the annoyance of people hitting me up for change and trying to buy or sell me drugs on my way into work or detecting the addicts seem to realize if they mess with me they are going to get run off. I think its because they are used to me as a familiar face who is not afraid and know I recognize them and know I'll see them again. These guys are thieves and murderers but they respect me and don't want to bring attention to their activities since the heat would crack down on them. Of course there are areas I don't detect as well. It depends on the egress back to the car and weather plays a big part. You are more likely to be messed with in nice weather when thieves can malinger looking for the right opportunity. Of course there are more witnesses out then too. When its cold and wet there should be no one around.

Bottom line is detecting the hood is not fun since you can't just relax and swing but if you just need to dig do what you must.

I’ll dig in the hood but I still carry. I’ve yet to find someone in the hood here who doesn’t know me. I’ve got more people who have my back in the hood than anywhere else. Most of the people around that area have gone to jail and knew me when I first became a cop and highly trust me. So I’m very confident they’d have my back

I was at an old school that was closed down and of course a suv pulled in 4 guys and then a marry go round of cars came by. Drug dealing at 3:00 pm! I just kept detecting and waved to them, they waved Back. I knew better than to call the cops... they would have known who called it in on them. I still hit That school hard but haven’t seen them sense. Of course I always pack when I hunt... just in case.

If you have a CCW put it to use. When you tell them you work for the city that's saying you have a job and money.

Seriously, dudes. You give metal detectorists a bad name. Ugh. 😡

I like to keep the sun at my back so I can see shadows coming from behind me. One kid did just that, then asked what the knife ( my digger) was for. I said to protect me from kids that sneak up on me from behind. I smiled when I said it, but I think he understood.

Iv'e always been a optimist and always try and find a positive way to do anything. Have you considered going to one of the local youth leaders in the area and asking if he or she would like to take a small group of inner city kids with you to hunt the park. I guaranty those kids would think it amazing to find anything buried all the while sharing your talents with them. You never know, you might spark a young persons interest that leads to becoming an archiologist
or even better, a metal detector enthusiast and new member to Tnet.

No that’s not me. I just want to detect this public park without getting killed for being a Caucasian.
