Too Hot to Dig...

Oddrock,
The hoyo is a dog, and if it looks like a owl on the other side then good..
I will pm you the meanings and what to do next...

The so called 'bear' - circled -is not..it only kinda sorta maybe, looks like one, kinda
Real bears when you find them in the outback are much more defined! This is one
sign that they make sure you recognize.. this is just a pbear and I dont mean Polar..lol

great pics, man you find the good stuff for sure
rangler

good to b back for however long

Oddrock

I believe most of the time when you are sitting in one of their "sitting places" you are able to see the next sign. In this case I was actually setting on "it".
This is why you should take pics and look at them. :laughing9:

oddrock not sure how far you are on this site, i think your heart rock came
from the boulder/big rock, broke off, by weather, age, ect, from the imprint
it looks like it was a heart carved on the rock, dont know if that changes
anything, or you already knew that, still learning, and very limited field exp
so im prob way off

\Thanks for the response...been busy on a site and packing to go back for a week or two w/o internet, so I will not be able to post for awhile. If my memory is close that "heart" rock was termed by another poster. I called it a open hiddey hole or something like that...the other poster may be correct? I found another open ? vault and moved on...Merry Christmas!

Oddrock

Got back. Will be processing and viewing new photos... will share if there is an interest.

Oddrock

Well.. lol of course there is an interest. Wanted to say my experience with sitting rocks is..one looked pretty much directly at the assumed area of interest. The other 3 or 4 were more medium to very long distance look see points.

And SS stop your snickering (private joke).

Awwwwww. I would never snicker. Giggle, MAYBE. Snicker? NEVER. :laughing7:

Sit as you will, but don't forget to stand up straight in the right place while standing on the back of your trained steed, whilst looking through your spotting scope. Not unlike croquet. The system was designed as a game for the King of Spain, should he ever make it here to New Spain.

I aint much of a trick rider these days, but nearly as good once as I ever was? Seriously, this is the reversed view through the hoyo and shows where to go for the next sign. Good Advice TF!

Oddrock:
That view through the hoyo sure is interesting. Do the marks INSIDE the hoyo mean anything or are they simply decorations?

How in the heck do they make this stuff without leaving chisel marks?

I've seen a lot of things on this forum site that I feel were obviously man-made, but very few tool marks. Did the Spanish have the technology to leave such smooth surfaces?

What is the degree of certainty (if any) that it wasn't made before the Spanish? And how would that be determined?

:coffee2:

(The reason I'm asking this in this particular topic, is that this hoyo looks so smooth, and that was my immediate thought.)

EE:
That is an excellent question and you have a very good "eye". This is a question that has not been addressed in any thread or post that I've read on the forum. The things that REALLY bring that question in to focus are those very, very SMALL marks and figures. I believe it was Old Dog who wrote about finding carved turtles that were just 2 inches long.
The large carvings are often made by chipping off sections of rock on larger pieces of rock until the rough shape is attained. Once the rough shape is gotten, they usually left it at that. But, then you come across something like this hoyo that just doesn't quite fit the mold.
The walls of this hoyo are not only pretty smooth, but did you notice how most of the left wall has the appearance of a fresco? I mean, it LOOKS like a blue wall with a golden sash. This is not to mention the 3 small hearts at the top of the opening and the small heart on the lower left at the bottom edge of the blue.

Shortstack---

No, I wasn't looking for anything that small. But now I see two white hearts at the top, upside down, but they are casting shadows, and look like they might moths.

I also see a grayish heart at the top right, leaning to the left, and a upside down heart at the lower left of the picture.

Also on the left of the inside there are what could be a couple of faces, a small one with a beard and a headpiece, and a little larger one that looks like one of those notorious "creepy aliens."

I see what you mean by the fresco. It's hard to make it out from the angle, though.

The smoothness does look very strange, overall.

EE:
I believe you are right about those moths. The one heart is just above them. (circled in yellow) And there is another heart at the lower left pointed out with the freehand yellow arrow.

Now DAAAAAAMN! I completely missed that painting of the big guy with a winged head piece!!! That is what I was blythly calling a "sash" because I didn't look close enough. Man, that is a great looking figure. If Oddrock isn't playing "April Fool" a month and a half early, he has a fantastic find.

Oddrock, don't let anyone know where this place is. When you go there again, please take a good clear photo of that left side. That's GOT to be a painting of somekind.

Seems to me that a lot of just natural stuff is marked as possible signs.
What I see here is either a stain or a natural coloration on the rock.

Try to keep it a little simpler in the interp. It's getting way too complicated.

Hmmmm. OK, Thom. I value your opinions.
