Todays spelling

I am horibble at spelling. Had a good spell check system going with my laptop but now it needs repair so I am using an I pad witch I don't like. I would rather word be spelled wrong then correct spelling of enterly different word. I have had entire conversions missinterpreted because spell check came up with its own word, where correct word spelled incorrect would of been understood. Grammar, spelling nope not me.. Plus add a few adult beverages oh man...

I can deal with the spelling. What bugs me, are these idiots at McDonalds that can't count change. And they want minimum wage raised to $15-. I say drop it to $5- and they wont know the difference.
What really blew my mind, I was at an auction a couple yrs ago. My friends daughter, a school teacher, asked me to bid on something for her. I won it for $10- and she wanted to pay me right away. You have to pay 6% state sales tax on items purchased, and she had no clue how much that would be. She actually asked several people setting around her.

what I'm tired of is people being offended. It doesnt even matter what you say if you are a public persona..someones gonna be offended. You like the broncos..bam..drive a ford...bam..misspell a silly word or fifty...bam.

I am not easily offended unless its being offended by the notion of another being offended.the ofence of the offender isnt offensive its the offended that offends me.
Wait a minute..dang...I have become self offensive and am offended by the very thought of my own offence.

screw it all...I guess I just dont care...wheres my beer..:occasion14:

Wat speelin ?

Soonone miss pelled ?

I see bad spelling but usually it's just a case of the poster was more into his topic and in a hurry and made mistakes we all could make, then didn't proofread his post. No big deal. I find it very amusing that spelling is indeed taught in school but you need something called 'auto correct' on a computer to help you spell?!

I mean come on, Know one in the us speak proper English...

Not just referring to the forum but everywhere in the USA. Apparently my earlier rant about this was removed, guess it was too offensive and would harm some of those with delicate skin. Ahh screw it..who cares anymore right, its not that being smart etc is important. What a waste of time.

Sometimes I proof what I am typing... mostly not...

If I catch a mistake I will edit only if I feel like it will throw off the reader...

In my opinion... spelling is not that important.

And the English language is screwy for many.

An example or what I mean...
READ - What your doing now.
READ - Past tense.
LEAD - like fishing weight.
LEAD - like the roll in a play.
BEAD - On a necklace.
DEAD - Self explanatory.
HEAD - The thing sitting on your shoulders that causes this.

Then I could go onto the ones that sound the same as many here but are spelled different and confused in some "typing"...
Like
BED - what I just crawled out of.
ON AND ON> !

And there is more...
Confused on spelling ?

In my opinion the English language is EHHHH heh. whatever.

Have any of you noticed how absolutely horrid people's spelling has become? You would think with auto correct etc that most mistakes would be caught but not the story it seems. I have seen the word "cheep" used as a term for inexpensive recently which caused me to post this but I've had this on my mind for some time. I fully understand autocorrect causing the use of a wrong word but not a misspelling.
Just wanted to know if anyone else noticed how poor people's spelling has become. Sad, so very sad.

It seems like its so very indignant coming from the younger set as well. Many of them just shrug and say, "Well you know what I meant so what does it matter?"

To me it matters. I'm old enough to have sat in individual wooden desks with inkwells still in them at school. We were taught the basics, and by God, you'd better get them right or be branded as a fool.

My son is 31 and he just had his first baby. When he is texting me and gets something wrong now, I always correct him. I tell him that he needs to ne a role-model and mentor for my grandson, and how is my grandson going to turn out right if you don't, re: WON'T acknowledge that there's a difference between, "your," and "you're," and "to" and "too." I might be anal about it. I worked for an advertising company for a while, and we all had the chore of proofreading each other's work.

My projection for all this is that unless we - the mature population of the English-speaking world doesn't reign it in, our cherished Mother-tongue will mutate into something else entirely different.

Speling dosn't weally botha me, but the blatant mis-use of words does .. using their when they mean there or vice versa .. or lay when they mean lie .. vary when they mean very .. and so oooooooooon ad nauseam !

However, when you combine the too .. I mean two .. it makes won .. darn it.. I mean one wander (oops that should be wonder) what the heck they are talking about. This is one of my favorites in that category:

What a waste of time.

Jerry Seinfield won't speak at colleges. He said in an interview the other day that the students complain about his insensitive racist uncaring jokes.

This generation is something different.

They are all victims, and we should not victimize them further by picking on spelling. It's okay- everyone get's a trophy and patted on the head. Negotiate with that screaming out of control kid in the grocery store.

If they can't spell, we should change our standards.

Write cursive and show it to a modern day college student. It's a foreign language.

You only get once to make a first impression- in person or over the magic of the world wide web. A minor mistake here and there- no big deal, we're human.

But if someone writes a completely sloppy post, a lot of misspellings, crap grammar and just sounds ignorant...

I should just sigh and hand him/her a trophy.

Sometimes I purposely misspell a word in an attempt to write a post as if I was telling a tale to a fellow patron of the local watering hole or use some slang to make a point. I'd like to think that I am writing with personality. What be the problem?

I went back 9 days and could not find any posts you made that were deleted. When posts are deleted they are still there just not visible to members, but they are still visible to mods and admins.

A Little Poem Regarding Computer Spell Checkers...

Eye halve a spelling chequer
It came with my pea sea
It plainly marques four my revue
Miss steaks eye kin knot sea.

Eye strike a key and type a word
And weight four it two say
Weather eye am wrong oar write
It shows me strait a weigh.

As soon as a mist ache is maid
It nose bee fore two long
And eye can put the error rite
Its rare lea ever wrong.

Eye have run this poem threw it
I am shore your pleased two no
Its letter perfect awl the weigh
My chequer tolled me sew.

OUCH! When it comes to spelling, grammar, sentence structure, I get a twinge in the stomach thinking about it all. All I can say is my wife is my Webster in my life, and I'm for ever thankful for this amazing thing call spell check, as it helps me through the daily grind of writing something down. I have to thank auto save also as it's saved what I've been trying to say because it's taken too long to write it down. I'm a master at malaprops and not even trying to be, and it can be embarrassing at times and funny at other times. To be honest if you slapped a wad of cash on the table and told me to give an example of a verb, noun, adjective I would be poor. It's a simple fact it's not there, lost, a missing piece in what should of been retained, but sadly not.
I have a good chuckle at some of the spellings of posters, in headers to their postings but it's a case of being rushed and not proof reading what was written. It's all in good fun that it's played on by others sometimes if no harm intended. I don't get upset at misspelled words in personal written postings, but I get a little pleasure of catching gaffs that are written in the newspapers or articles as these standards should be higher.
