Time for a TV boycot?

For some, it's a matter of priority. I'm a service tech and I see it all the time. The other day, I was installing VOIP for a senior couple, They would be saving a few bucks because their internet/phone bill was going up. "We can't afford that, we're on a 'fixed income'. They had a big, beautiful home, I looked around the den and noted the big-screen TV and brand new Apple desktop. Later, as I sat outside in my truck, I watched them drive away in their brand-new Caddy. Another newer car sat in the garage.

Thanks for your perspective, Fistfull. Interesting to hear the viewpoint from a frontline soldier in the industry I'm railing against. I respect the work you do, and the knowledge and skill required. I certainly hope you don't laugh in the face of those who feel like someone is reaching into their wallet and extracting what they want. I doubt that you do. I would disagree with your above suggestion that ATT is breaking even. That makes me chuckle. I felt the same way, in defending my employer, when I was delivering mail, and someone would chew my butt because the price of a stamp went up to 35 cents! As for your signature about LED ZEPPELIN, that's the ONLY way to listen to it. That also made me chuckle.

I understand that, and I never said 'everybody'. My point was, internet and TV are not life necessities. Well, come to think of it, internet maybe. But TV?

Yeah, I'm afraid, unless one lives under a freeway overpass, that internet HAS become a necessity.

No way in HECK! I will ever pay for TV. On any given day I can think of 1000 things I would rather do then watch TV. I waste 5 or 6 hours a week on this computer, and thats to much.

There's a government cheap internet service. It's $14.99 a month with unlimited service thru Spectrum. But a condition is we must not have had any of their services for 30 says. So have to sign up with another company for a for a month and hope that's easy and acceptable to the program.

Isn't that income dependent, associated with public assistance?

I've been working for the cable company for 24 years now and get it all free. If I had to pay for it though i'd only have a high speed internet connection so that I could stream everything, which is primary what i do now. I think cable is for sports fans, something that i am not. Just hope they don't repeal Net Neutrality, or you'll all be paying more to stream your entertainment.

ATT home hi-speed internet and home phone, about $36/mo. No contract. No outside wires. Don't quote me. I did my own 2 minute research.

Yup. That's exactly the way I'm leaning. As soon as I move next month. Thanks for your input. That goes for everyone who has taken the time to offer up suggestions.

yea thanks ! but no. unless someone local who has had what I do.
and could explain the Risks of Price changes & quality.
Especially for Home Internet I will Never use a Hand phone for Internet with My eyes.
and I do like my internet speed . what ever it is

Your phone is used for a WiFi hotspot and you connect via wireless on your laptop. Piece of cake. Or you can just buy a wireless hub and use your Verizon data that way.

Seriously???
If so you are my hero for that info!

I have been looking for that kind of a deal.
Yes i will check it out first.

Television and internet are not necessities in life. I really dislike the term 'fixed income'. Most folks should have simply planned better.
" I DISLIKE THE TERM SHOULD HAVE PLANNED BETTER"....Well fixed incomes does not mean one did not plan good . I say i am on fixed income but i have my 2 pensions and a nice account put away i still drive semi truck part time in the summer .But my income from my pensions is fixed i never get a raise in my pensions..So i am on a fixed income.. Some jerk last summer said to me you are 77 and still working you must not have planned well... That is why i hate that saying for he had no idea what i have.. i still haul trees part time in the summer for it is something i love to do and look forward to it every year when spring comes around.. My buddy who owns the whole sale nursery were i drive is 91 and he is out in the nursery every day in the summer doing something .We just can not get it out of our blood. ... So do not say did not plan well if you do not know the circumstance.. And i still think that is a hurtful statement to some not nice.

That is the way with a lot of ones that have money it seems like the more they have the more they complain about not having enough ..Never satisfied do not know how to enjoy what they have they always want more ..

Well now that straight talk has the Unlimited Unlimited $55 plan that's what I do if I want to watch Netflix/Hulu/Xbox etc. Just use my hotspot. Streams at 12 or so mbps...
And for local tv I just use my own Homemade antenna...she's ugly but I can get around 40 channels with a decibel booster. View attachment 1521007

I just love me some down home ingenuity! SHE'S BEAUTIFUL!!!:love10: I reckon you can run a trot line and skin a buck TOO! YEE HAW!:headbang:

Ahh the evils of the brain washing box.Not that many will listen but since a bill was passed a few years ago legalizing the use of propaganda on the masses, basically lies, thats all the media has become.A brain washing machine,a propaganda machine.Fear the Boogeyman men, theyre coming to get you.LMAO.Watching television increases your gullibility as your brain, left and right side, no longer communicators to each other.

Yep. Lol. The frame of that antenna used to be a sliding screen door. A few bucks for the copper wire. Had the hardware cloth lying around. And I also had all the components (connectors, cable, etc) because I install satellite tv. The biggest cost was the decimal booster. :occasion14:

Red, you speak the truth. It's effective, too. The population around me has been dummied down, all curiosity sapped, can't even drive a car. They don't grasp subtle humor. If it's not a fart, or the F-word, there's no reaction. The smart phone has become the greatest danger. WOW, they could be standing next to a three headed dog, and wouldn't notice. Ah well, haven't drank the Kool Aid yet, hope a few of us can hold out.

I myself sit in awe of the cable companies. The companies seem to have a loyal customer base. Many entertainment shows are really just thinly veiled propaganda programs trying to push the agenda of the day and people gladly pay for it. Amazing.
