Time for a TV boycot?

The best button on my free tv...the off button, and i do use it often.
When i want to see a movie or something, i don't like all the commercials tying up my time.

that's what's great about a dvr, you can fast forward through anything

For me, it's not only about the money, but what I'm paying for...if I buy a service, I want it free of ads, but here we're paying for basic plus a sports package, and the sports channels are littered with infomercials, plus increasingly obnoxious and disgusting ads. Their 'broadcasters' are often no better than talking hairdos with shrill, whiny voices.

I no longer even look at regular TV apart from traffic and weather, and even there the above problems exist. There has to be a better solution.

Is it just me, or are some of you reaching the point of total disgust at the price and quality of TV "bundles"? I don't even have the best package, and my price jumped to $177 per month. For... 25 minutes of actual show in a one hour program. Pay, essentially to watch the same commercials over and over. Some of the so called science or information programs feel the need to review what you just watched, after a five minute commercial break, like my retention is worse than a goldfish. If you add up all the actual information provided in a one hour program, it could be said in 5 minutes. It feels like a con to me. Anyway, I was thinking, because the TV providers charge their advertisers based on the data gathered from your cable box on what programs you are watching, what if we weren't watching anything? What if we all unplugged our cable boxes for a week? Nationwide protest. Same week, everyone tells them to take a hike until the monthly cost is reduced to a reasonable amount. This has become thievery, IMO.

Just came across this on another site.Might be worth looking into further :)

I cut cable off about two years ago, and haven't missed anything. At the same time I cancelled my land line telephone, and between the two saved something in the neighborhood of $100, don't remember for sure. Bought a android phone from Costco for $125, that had a $300 rebate. Figured that was a no brainer. Phone bill runs $70 per month, unlimited voice and texting. I never exceed my limit on data because anything that would require data use, I do on the computer. My internet is through Spectrum, and that's another $65 per month, and it's fast enough that I can stream TV. So the internet costs me $2.13 cents a day, and I do get my money's worth. I can watch Fox news, listen to Rush if I want to, I watched the Rose Parade this morning, and I'm on the internet right now. But on the other hand, the phone costs me $2.33 cents a day, and I don't believe I get my money's worth from that. I do like being able to text the kids and grand kids though, so reckon I'm stuck with that rather than a less expensive flip phone like some of my friends have.

Cable services including phone, internet and TV is around $175 which is very expenses for me on a fix income.

I need to find internet service only, for $50 a month or less...then they are always going up.
Comcast didn't value me enough as a customer to hook me up, they just wanted to add to my $90 a month TV only bill, i said "goodbye".

Many folks over 50 or so tend to want to keep their cable services out of sentiment, mostly because they just aren't tech savvy. I see it all the time in my line of work, the technology appears to be too overwhelming for many. OTOH, very few young people even subscribe to cable TV or sattelite anymore, they just aren't interested, but they do love their video streaming devices.

Is AT&T Uverse internet available? You should be able to get phone, internet and keep DirecTV for half of what you pay now.
