Time for a TV boycot?

Seriously Kray, Everything is on the Internet or will be very shortly; some things take longer than others to find, but its there if you're persistent.

Thanks Champ. I think I need to take a tutorial somewhere. Too many new and different technologies to tie together, but that's really looking like the way to fix this issue. I really appreciate everyone's input on this. Learning a lot.

Well now that straight talk has the Unlimited Unlimited $55 plan that's what I do if I want to watch Netflix/Hulu/Xbox etc. Just use my hotspot. Streams at 12 or so mbps...
And for local tv I just use my own Homemade antenna...she's ugly but I can get around 40 channels with a decibel booster. View attachment 1521007

Now THAT'S what I'm talkin' about, right there! A big ole' signal grabber!

she works good... I'm in SW MO and I have received Monroe LA on a stormy night...just once..
NOW its hard to receive anything unless it's directly pointed at it. IDK

When my wife was still alive, we had bundled land line, TV and internet from Spectrum. I think the cost for that was around
$90/mo. Then the year was up and the price jumped to around $150. When my wife passed I realized I was only watching one channel, and I rarely used the land line. I was on my daughters plan with a cell phone. So I canceled the land line and TV. High speed internet costs me $70 per month from Spectrum. I use the internet a lot, every day. Do not miss the TV at all, don't miss the land line, and internet is costing me around $2.35 a day, which I suspect ends costing me between 50 cents and a dollar an hour, which is worth it to me, because I do use it a lot, and it's plenty fast enough to watch TV. I'm no longer on my daughters family plan, so the smart phone is another $60 per month, which I think is to much, but again it has what I want, and I use it for some pictures, texting and talking --- Treasure Net and other stuff I do on the computer.

I moved from NYC to Port Allegheny, Pennsylvania in July. I haven't hooked up my T.V. since moving in. I'm okay with that. Eventually, I will buy a larger Smart TV and hook up to Netflix.
I have to get a few things done around the house. Watching TV doesn't get things done.

Detecting in FL many years ago I ran into a fellow that worked for AT&T and we got chatting about service and he told me that when you have beef just ask for resolutions after going through the hoops with customer service, the problem has to be resolved period. With a provider I had it worked out to be $10 an hour for reductions/rebates/one time goodwill. So for every hour discussing the problem it was worth $10 which was always a totally gagging experience. I finally decided to upgrade cell phones for myself after the android kept dropping calls, and the wife had a granny flip phone. I decided to get the Galaxy 5 and they didn't have enough power to send or receive a call, I can see the tower a mile away, also the one phone was defective so I called. 7hrs of my life spent trying to resolve the problem, and you guessed it $70 goodwill rebate.
I decided to go the next level resolutions-1hr later this dude says that it would be better to upgrade to the Galaxy 7 and it would be a small increase per month, Quick calculations meant $3000 extra on the 2 yr plan! I asked him if he thought this was right to be charging this huge amount extra on the 2 yr plan. "Oh sir it's a great deal, I wouldn't want you to be paying more"
Good bye provider, went to the next provider got the same phones, a tablet, and the amount I can download is crazy. Before it was 500mb a month now it's 16gb a month, all for $20 over what I was paying.
Communication costs in Canada for what we receive is one of the highest in the world, we pay for something that's never delivered as promised.

I gave up cable 2 years ago, got too pricey for stuff i didn't want.
I asked them for just internet, they told me no, so i gave them back their little black box and remote.

I have my cell phone and my son got one of those wifi hot spot devices so i can use my i-pad (bigger screen, more options)

....but i do wonder what's going to happen to all of us now that these internet companies can sell their high speed to corporations and etc. and put everyone else on the slow boat.
We knew this day was comming when the free internet would be restricted then carved up to the highest bidder.
....they all start out the same way, with this phrase,
"We will never do that".....and yet here we are!

a class action lawsuit against ALL TV & internet providers mandating "pay as you get" pricing

the law firm of Doowie, Cheatum & Howe could be a savior for consumers :laughing9:

if they can block "premium" signals--- they can block the :censored: that MOST viewers WILL NEVER WATCH----EVER

who will be the 1st member of Congress to write THIS BILL :dontknow:

:BangHead::dontknow::help::protest::protest::protest::protest::angry4::angry5:

You kind of nailed how I feel. NO congressman will stand up to ANY major corporation. Congress does not represent us, they represent corporations, pure and simple. Over the years I have written numerous letters to my congressmen and senators for various reasons, and without fail, received a pat form letter response not even related to why I wrote. Once while in college, my senator, the late Frank Church, was on campus, schmoozing for the press, surrounded by a dozen local dignitaries and college officials, desperately trying to kiss all their asses simultaneously in the student center, so I walked up to shake his hand, and couldn't even get his attention. I didn't have a suit on and didn't smell of money. It was memorable for me. Corporations now own America, and somehow we need to demonstrate our power. But how. How about unplugging our cable boxes on Superbowl Sunday. WHAT?
Try to motivate Americans to do that, right?

Guarantee I won't watch the super bowl, don't want to know what teams are playing, don't care who is advertising, don't want to know the score, or about any costume malfunctions. Total boycott on my part. If I need a football fix I'll watch high school or college. Granddaughter goes to University of Colorado. Go Buffs.

I also use my 'unlimited' phone plan for internet sometimes. But all of you that have 'unlimited' on your phones don't truly have 'unlimited' internet service. Read the fine print and its usually in there about throttling the speed after a certain point or under certain Provider Defined conditions- meaning whenever the heck they want to.

If you really want to get mad at internet providers of all flavors, look into how the speed here compares to Europe (and I don't just mean the cities/more populated areas). US politicians <spit> are in the pockets of the communications companies, but I am sure that isn't news to anyone.

Boycott? Yah I don't think that will happen. There are too many addicted to the tube. I tried cable for a year a while back, a birthday gift for my wife. She likes her football. But once they went off the introductory price, they where gone. Could not believe the junk that is on there! Nothing, and I mean nothing worth watching. Way to many progressive liberals to get my blood boiling too. Much better with it gone. Truly a poison getting in my household. I think when you get away from it for a while (couple months) then go back to watching it you will feel the same way.

I don't watch TV, but Mom does downstairs right now through Direct TV, probably 200 channels and she watches 2. When Mom passes that ends. I get everything I want to watch through the Internet.

I already feel that way. I keep telling my wife that the shows she likes to watch will rot her brain. Alas, no effect, I think it's already past the use-by date. Ha.

I got both NFL and MLB packages on my DirectTv....
I can’t imagine not having access to my bum Red Sox throughput each season, and you’ll never see me miss a Pats game.
When the Patriots aren’t playing, I’m locked on the Red Zone channel every Sunday...best channel ever.
My wife and I enjoy a variety of shows, she likes Turner Classic Movies, HGTV, and MMA on Spike..... I like anything on ESPN, Golf Channel, and any channel that shows Cops reruns.

What does it cost me? Don’t know, don’t care.
Only bummer is during the rainy season the dish knocks out the HD channels, so I gotta watch the old school non-HD feed... not the end of the world.

goes back to that Lily Tomlin routine--- "we're the phone (cable, dish & most other giants) company-- we don't care-- we don't have to" :help::protest::protest::protest::protest::protest::angry5::angry4::cussing::cussing:

carefull without TV you will be able to think clearly. 8-)

We just got one of those new fangled Roku Smart TV's and i just found an app called Pluto that is like getting cable for FREE. All you need is a good internet connection. Showgirls (uncensored) is even on as I type this message. Another reason to not pay some stupid redundant service provider. :)

I boycotted pay TV about 30 years ago - it cuts into my wallet and digging time. I salvaged an old beat up roof antenna and can get 5 stations on it, which is plenty for me. Radio fills in any gaps.:hello2:
