Seems like all wild game tastes better when it,s been feeding on acorns.Wood ducks that have been on a steady diet of pin oak acorns are the absolute best.Better than a Mallard any day and a Mallard is pretty good. That's what they do in Italy, put the pigs in the oak forests for 6 months.
Acorns, oak leaves, high tannin diet.
Prosciutto ham cured for 12-16 months.
The ones that are cured for 3 yrs sell in NY for a $100 a pound.
I gathered up 250 lbs of acorns a few yrs back off the lawn.
Our friends 2 pigs ate it like popcorn.
I didn,t know Simon well, but I miss that Rook!Well... Some crew members that have dropped off i feel may have passed or something.
Most notably ... Simon and Rook.
I remember Rook saying something about Covid prior.
Contact your nearest County Extension Agent. He can provide a soil test, usually at no charge. You,ll have to get the container from him or her,and scoop up your own dirt, but it,s not much dirt needed.Write down the plants you intend to grow, there,s a place on the container for that.and they can advise as to what soil amendments you need for your plants to grow well.Easy as ABC!Gardening is not my most favorite hobby. But, I really feel it is something we need to get back to. I do love the fried squash! I have been floundering around with other recipes. Okay but still the fried squash wins. I just learned today that you can make a flour out of the squash. Good information right there. Tomatoes didn’t do so good this year. Peppers are better. Lettuce was bitter and I picked it early. Watermelon not so good. Bunnies keep eating the beans. I may get one head of cabbage. Time will tell for the rest. Pumpkins and squash are killing it.
My daughter thinks my ground is too acidic. Plan for next year.
Mines? We laugh at mines! I,m not the least bit claustra----,clawstro----,cluester---,scared of tight places! That’s pretty cool. I would not be one to explore mines though.
