Dave, remember to take off your beloved bumper sticker if you're going up to cottage country. Country folks are still afraid of the city folks now a days.

Which way are you cutting (as the photo shows) or on the side that would depict the 3 fingers?

Now I also want to know if this piece is 1'x 3' or 2' x 8' in size?

I also need to know.......:laughing7:

Zipper it Jim-Too many questions-let the man work! Geez-You sound like a kid asking all these silly questions. ???

Bart have you ever used any of this product finishing wood. I highly recommend looking into the features that it provides. It's a friendly product-safe-no VOC-waterproofs, restores, brings up the grains. I've done floors, laundry sink cabinet, bathroom vanity top, outdoor projects.
Great company to work with and the ethical structure of the products is 1st class.

Yes I do. I do not spray my trees. Aerial spraying would be the only way. I had my three big trees crowned 2 years ago. Those trees are over 100 years old.And yes away from the trees is an idea.

I have a picture somewhere of a pear tree in England. I was detecting and came across pears laying along the edge of the field. I'm looking for a fruit tree-then I heard one drop! I looked at this massive tree and it was a pear tree-looked more like a giant oak. :laughing7:

In Ontario we've been hit with so many problems regarding trees as a whole. Ash. elm. Hickory. Cherry. Pine have all taken a huge hit because of some bug/disease.

I didn’t dig everything! Yea! But seriously, its because the high squeaks in the old barnyard pretty much made my arms feel like heavy wet noodles.

If I may be so bold. Missy? You didn't quite get it right. I said high squeaks not *LOUD* squeaks. What you did there is more akin to one of what I call "relic" hunts.

They may have been high but surely you could tell it wasn't a short coin hit.

Now don't get me wrong. I don't totally ignore whatever I'm not looking for on a walk. And I usually only use these techniques on places where I totally expect to be walking several more times.

It all depends on the type of walk I need for that particular time. If I'm well rested, I'll dig everything! Means less walking and much more digging! Also much more trash!

But, if I just want to relax, I'll do a high squeaks walk. Meaning few digs but usually a quarter on up. More walking. Even then, though, if I get a signal that's a lil lower but insistent, I'm liable to dig. That's how that platinum ring came out last time. It only rang up between 60 & 70 but solid!

Keep at it Sis, you're getting it! :icon_thumright:

Well right now I'm just getting it to the dimensions I need to fit it under the mill. Had to buck the hips and now I'm working on the root ball end. This giant had 8 large root buttresses......the buttresses we used to cut away and discard. They are worth carefully harvesting because of there figural beauty.....these root pieces are some of the most figural and beautiful pieces I've ever cut. This log because of the buttresses got the nick name of "SQUID LOG" !! We will cut 6ft X28 inch wide stand alone live edge tops. We are cutting this for a friend who gave us much support (trees) in the beginning of our journey. He will get 3 slices and we will get the rest. Log should be spectacular with a large crotch pattern running down toward the roots. The chatoyancey or reflective qualities of this wood should be off the scales !! No rot or bug damage in this one at all !!
