Padlock. (What was to be locked up there back when?)

Stout trigger guard. It might be the clue to type firearm , till you find the lockplate!

Barrel hints of being a smoothbore. Can't tell for sure from side views. (?) Drum attached says percussion ignition louder than flintlock..

Are you sure that's a horse bit looks like a lynch pin. I only know because I've had to use them tons back when I helped with orchard work.

Not a lynch pin
It's brass with the steel bit piece.

I guess it just looks a lot like them. I've dug a lot on the orchard because we had to use a bunch of them. They could leave a mean blood blister when they snap down on a hand or finger. I did not like using them lol.

There's a "lever" shaped piece attached to the ring on P.J.'s pics that are not on a lynch pin.
Stronger ring.
If he flips it over , the area wrapping around the ring will be uniform , same as current view.
To the left side where the piece ends in his last picture is almost to the flex joint of the bit in the center of mouth if a snaffle type.

I was pinched by one lynch pin on the tractor three point recently. About healed from a hairpin on hitch hauler.
Pulling a deck of the tractor to change the oil the other day I was going to turn the wheels to slide the deck out easier.
Cheap "keyring" type wire holders on pins made me forget that idea. I need to find some hair pin types.

I only recognized the bit from a snaffle we had for a horse many years ago.
I usually rode that one bareback with just binder twine on it's halter. No bit.
But , a snaffle is easy on a horse , vs some other bit options I never owned.
Hints that the horse and owner got along on P.J.'s site. Or at least one did once!

Also still looked for my aunts long lost wedding ring today. Failed again. Though I found two graduation tassels in one day. A 1972 and a 1998. Also a 1957 wheat penny. I can't find a ring but have never found a graduation tassel and land 2 in difficult spots go figure.
