Scored the 242C lantern today. 48 5 stamped on bottom.
Meaning fifth month of 1948.
Took a picture for comparison someday when I get to work on it .
Somewhere under all the crud and who knows what is some shiny nickel wash. My first plated fount. No idea how much is salvageable or if a brass (?) fount will appear in spots.
Mostly original, except the nail.
Great globe of the right era. Missing the two tiny pump holding screws is so far the only parts needed. Pump held in with crud currently..
I have a fuel cap seal replacement. And new pump leather. Both need replaced , no surprise.
Did fish out a 3 1/2 inch nail through the tiny fuel fill hole.
Took 80 strokes of the phillips head driver against a magnet to magnetize the tip , and two tries to fish the nail out.
Had been in there a looong time.
My first guess is someone used it for a dipstick to check fuel level and dropped it.
Second guess is someone had a kid or kids.
Clean looking fount inside though. Probably cleaner from my trying to shake the nail out for a good while.
