You know how I got the hots for cannons,Found one-local-4 sale.....What ya think ???

6' carriage View attachment 2019447View attachment 2019448View attachment 2019449View attachment 2019450View attachment 2019451
Got a question for you pros ......The owner says he's applied 3 coats of 'oil paint' to this cannon. What would be the best/easiest way to remove the paint ? The cannon 'itself' looks kinda ratty (heavily pitted) . It might be worth fix'en up.,When looking at the prices on replicas here.:icon_scratch:And this one doesn't come with a carriage

Thats what I was thinking. But how about removing the existing paint(just off the cannon) not the carriage ???
(The carriage & wheels look to be in good shape)
Paint stripping can be obtained by sanding, chemical, heat, sand blasting each have good/bad results on the substrate.
Substrate being a heavy cast it could be subjected to a liquid stripper or a heat applicator.
Separation of the cannon from the carriage is step one.

Cleanest is sandblasting it, fastest, cleanest, and different mediums can be used. Walnut shell, sand, soda, glass

After blasting the surface will have to be primed within 30 minutes. (Rust starts )

There is a company that does head stones and they sand blast other articles for folks.
Cheap actually as they charge a $100-150 max for an item as the cannon
They have the equipment to move it around
Great supplementary business for them as well.
