What do we see, animal, a dot, oh wrong camera.
Oh What are you doing out there in the cold winter's storm?

Just topic for discussion.
Most here know of my ability/curse to find clad.....*ANYWHERE*!!

I swear! I could find clad in King Tut's tomb! LOL

Don't get me wrong, finding anything, even clad, keeps the interest up. My question is more about what am I doing wrong? :laughing7:

Here's the rest of the story.

Over the last year I've hunted places ranging from raw woods to a 200 year old mansion's grounds. I have indeed found some nice old coins. *BUT*.... There were very, very few revealed!

I understand the idea of there just plain ain't many to find. But, again, my percentage? After all those thousands of finds? Less than 1 percent!! :dontknow:

It isn't just the coins that bothers me either. Sure, its strange that I can't even find an occasional wheat cent. But not even items of age!?!?

Why don't I even find musket balls? Minie bullets? Etc.

I know. Can't find what isn't there. Still, cornfields? Woods? Mansions? Old churches? Old, used to be, hotels? 17-1800's Farm houses? :icon_scratch: Really!?

Ok...they held onto their pennies better than we do. But...no items of age!? Or at least *very* few!!!???

So....what does Whadi want from us?

Just any and all theories.

Not a single bullet in an entire ancient cornfield? They sunk deeper than I can find? Didn't walk over any? All year long!?

There really is no single answer to my quest. Just trying to pull on collective expertise to understand why I've only found about FIVE wheat cents......all year long! Also, I understand how clad can get into the middle of an old cornfield but *ONLY* clad!?!?

What am I doing wrong!? Even a blind squirrel finds a nut now and then!

Thanks! And....happy new year!

WD how's the hubby feeling ?
Has any the loving sympathy kicked in yet.
I know you care-but I'm referring to that extra special care.
Like rubbing the paw, soothing humming, getting what ever he desires.
I spent 2 hours shopping for groceries online to be delivered and then made him tomato soup. Does that count?

If you had audio there might be a cussing grumbling sound from the racoon.

I'll wager it would like to join the chickens.
Side door double latched, double Dutch door latched/lock on but not closed, 1"sq. Stick bracing door as well. Windows latched plus 24ga. ground mesh screening over them.
Check for 🐾 every time we go out.
If the coon wants me chickens, then I'll have a head covering like Danial Boone. :laughing7:

Lots of questions. And lots of possibilities.
I'll speculate foolishly on the cornfield. Cause that's the kind of thing I'd do.
Who owned it how long and did they shoot?
Hunt or target or both?
My highest bullet counts come from sites that stop bullets. Deliberate bank as a backstop for exaple.
My road fill has bullets in it. From wherever the material came from. A gravel pit maybe?

A landowner may be tidy by nature. Or extra cautious about shooting. If the field has no backstop , shooting could have (if shooting occurred) elsewhere.
Too , some folks used birdshot vs bullets for fowl. Settled areas could have had little game at one time except small game and again birdshot.
Prior to more modern game laws , big game was simply meat to many folks.

Clad in the corn , may be from tractor operators.
I agree coins had more value the earlier we go. But still couldn't be lost much where people don't go.
A tractor (and equipment) operator might not be in the field a lot. But is repeatedly. That adds up. But how old is the fields being worked?

Fifty years for sure detectorists have been active.
Time and time and time again I have come up with a site , to find someone I know hit it years ago. Who else did?

A visitor from out of state and myself detecting speculated on how many of what sized buckets of coin came out of an 1800's to current times park we were in. And what the early detecting days must have been like....

I've been told of guys just hunting anywhere. Permissions of little concern.
And of some clever ones hunting most anywhere by presenting themselves as needing to be there.
Your fields history can be either unmolested (Un trafficked upon by silver /old coin and gun bearing humans) till recent times , or was used by frugal (coin guarding keep em home you don't need them behind the mule) occupants.

That should delay the coon all of five minutes...L.o.l.

Hubby had a spell where he didn’t feel good last night but it passed. He woke up this morning achy and a fever of 101.3 and coughing. Took the rapid test . It’s negative. Yeah right. I would say it is a false negative. Regardless he’s sick and I’m sure to be next. 🤬
WD,
Good luck to you and hubby....Here's hoping you get through this relatively unscathed.

And that's why the coon is out on thin ice in hopes of not being dogged. (Literally dogged.)
The Max would certainly love to go after something like that. Then again the net results would probably be a visit to the Vet.
Being a holiday weekend the pricce point would start at $500 and go up from there.
Easier to not to dog it. As the next varmint might be a Fisher or the Porcupine.

Jim, Those raccoons can make a real mess of dog they're ferocious little critters when cornered.

On the menu tonight we'll boil up some German sausages, With some small potatoes and sauteed German style red cabbage. I got some old style mustard and horseradish for dipping. Put out some home made sauerkraut and dill pickles on the table also.
This pandemic is giving us a chance to start cleaning out our fridge, freezer and pantry.

Ya right, the Mrs did say it raised it head up a tad.
No fear of the bark
