Seems like it a given in today's world
Getting a generic Generac to keep the power going for the geriatric pirates. :laughing7:

I tell my customers, "folks need to buy what works and what they can afford during the current supply chain issues, but all generators are only as good as the maintenance they receive once they're installed." Remember... "The sweetness of the low price will fade, but the bitterness of poor quality will remain forever" ... you get what you pay for people.

Sorry folks, that's the career 'salesman' coming out of me. :laughing7:

I got a raise yesterday..... hard to believe but when I freelance fish while collecting salary I can make a number that I'm embarrassed to say. Many people are struggling, and im getting paid very well to do something that really is a job that only incredibly rich people would pay someone to do !! I would never have believed that sportfishing could pay like an upper management type job. I will soon be investing again with some spare cash !! Woooo hoooo !!
Never feel bad when you get a raise in pay Bart, it's obviously something you deserved because of your hard work.

They are supposed to represent how much iron mineralization is in the soil. The detector's circuits are trying to eliminate soil/background noise from targets. A fairly futile effort *BUT* ....that "intelligence" is what one is paying for, to simply ignore the effort ....(at least all the time)....isn't very "smart". After all, the simplest detectors will have "intelligence" that tells you there is a piece of metal below. We trust that part and dig.

I figure this way. I have less time in my future nowadays. When I go for a walk, sometimes, I just don't want it to be like I'm just going to work. I don't want to dig every single target *every* time I go! Sometimes I do. Just not *every* walk!

The science of metal detecting has become fascinating! A really good discriminating detector can be a good thing! Why else spend all that money if what is desired is just tell me there's metal in the ground? Might as well buy a bulldozer and a sieve.

My initial question is just about what levels of mineralization, with which, other parts of the country are dealing?

I tried an experiment last time out. I actually tried to understand and *use* some of the technology I bought!

I set my machine to the custom mode and eliminated iron to 35. (It goes up to about 45). Then I auto ground balanced to about 92 making as sure as I could, that there were no metal targets where I was balancing first. Then, I chose from the four main frequencies that the detector has, to find the one with the least interference.

The machine was a dream to use! It stayed as quiet as it could and yet hit on targets like a gold earring at about 8 inches! Nickles at about 10!
I also rebalanced the machine every few minutes and was surprised to see how the mineralization changed so much in just short distances! When I was unsure of a target? I flipped it over to the "iron audio"....and then?? I dug it anyway!! I found the iron audio circuit to be about 90 percent accurate!

The only way to be sure? Use all metal mode and dig *EVERYTHING*! But that....is too much like work! I'm retired.
WIF,
Good morning!

To the best of my knowledge yes minerilization affects the depth we can reach detecting, higher mineralization in the soil most probably reduces depth because the machine has to punch through that to pick up the targets.

As a compromise go all metal but cherry pick and dig only targets above a certain number on your machine. This accomplishes 2 things because remember notching out certain numbers can cause the machine to nul out other targets when next to iron or whatever you have notched out. Also discrimination puts a drag on the machine and reduces total depth achievable.

Hope this is of some help. I'll see if I can find a video for you that deals with the issue to give you another perspective.

Good point bill. We’re lucky here in my area. Purdy low mineralization here.

This one is a Bluetooth model so communicates with my phone via the Bluetooth. So as long as I have my phone in a reasonable distance of my phone I can take calls with my watch so if I'm busy and can't get to my phone I can answer it on my watch at contine what I'm doing as I talk on my watch. It has a lot of fitness sensors and can count the steps I take, heart rate, also and interesting feature on this one is the ekg sensor. I can answer texts messages and get various notifications on it. Also lots of customize a whole lot of things. I enjoy fiddling with tech and customization so I nerd out on stuff like this lol.

It just amazes me how we've all managed to live so long without being able to... That's a beautiful looking time piece John, we all deserve to treat ourselves a present like that occasionally.

Sometimes I don't even realize when I'm giving a sales speech Rook, my wife likes to remind me "to stop being such a salesman and trying to sell everyone all the time." Then at other times, she'll tell me to "use my sales skills to get a refund out of our cell service provider." :laughing7:
