Bart I have some new versions of them, but block. Not sure what they do.

Yeah, on photograph stands maybe.

Can you get a photo of it folded flat both ways? Just checking, thanks.

Just when I was thinking you didn’t have much pirate in you, you prove me wrong. LOL Well, enjoy it , those days are long gone.

Nay milady....that kind of beauty doesn't wear, it just becomes vintage.

No "pirate" in me though. I won't infringe. Just adamantly stubborn when it comes to digging up my "treasures".

Maybe, only maybe, might have been for a chart table but it does not look like there is enough offset or "throw" to the one butt. If it was for a chart table, the middle hinge would be for a lid over the chart box, with a glass lid that folded over the chart box to hold a chart flat and dry. You could lift the lid with or without the glass to access the box below.

Only folds flat one way. That sucker was down there a foot. Old post office site.

Okay, yeah. It's pretty likely sort of what I said. The longer but would fasten standing proud of the box. The middle butt would be fitted to the top of the lid, and the top butt would be fitted to the bottom of a frame holding a sheet of glass.

What is the dimensional width of the longer butt relative to the shorter butts? That would clue you in to the thickness of the box lid. Could have been a picture box, a chart or map box, or a mailbox?

five months!?

Congruent?

I'll bet he did it five minutes at a time. Only 288 steps to tomorrow....

I remember number five. Number five is what separates the hard-core from the hard floor. Tell him I said so.

Yes, consecutive and harmonious. Last year was... whew boy, you know. I will tell him.

You stumped MR WD. 3 leaf hinge, he called it. Said he never seen one. Maybe used for a table???

Yeah. Three leaf hinge. The leaves need to be let in for it to work, so they can also be called "butts" ( butts, that's some crapenter lingo that does not translate well to layman's terms) A table with a glass lid fitted over the wooden lid on a box in the table. A chart or map or picture box. Could have been for a light box too. Lift the glass to change the display or lift the lid with the glass to change the lamp in the light box.

^That photo-

Top of the butt right of the barrel screws into the bottom of a lid. Left side of middle but screws into a lid. This way both top of lid and bottom of frame can close into one another. The butt that Black Bart is holding like he is drinking noon tea fastens to the side of a box,That's exactly what that piece does. I have no idea what it is for.

Bart, take a picture with the two "short legs" pinched together. You will se how they operate together and will throw clear of the "longer leg".

3 leaf hinge....cool....my first one. I know exactly what your talking about duckshot...thanks for the info guys !!....oops...and gals !!

Except, if you walk into a hardware store and ask for "a three leaf hinge", they wont know what you are talking about and they will try to sell you a plantation shutter hinge which is something completely different. ???

For all the "progress" Mankind has made, we have forgotten twice as much of what we used to know. For instance, hand a 12 year old an old rotary telephone. They will be all like-"What the $#!+!!!??"

ETA, speaking of which, how come we still "dial" telephone numbers? Can't you just push the buttons?

I mentioned a dial tone to a young man the other day. They said, "Whazzat?".

Oh...and BTB.....why does "long distance", still exist?
