I got permission for the Furnace!

They even let us poke around a bit. As expected, lots of iron, but we didn't stay too long. They bulldozed where we think the yankees camped so it might be easier than we thought. We'll have to go back and see.

I've lived within walking distance of this behemoth for five years, and today I got my first picture of it. This pic doesn't convey just how massive this thing is. I'm 6 ft. tall, and I only come up to about 2 1/2 to 3 blocks high. The area around it is pretty big too. According to a diary from a soldier from Co. M., 117th Ohio, the "rebbels" had "breastworks" on top of the hill at the furnace. They dozed the site in the early 2000s, so we'll be checking dirt piles etc. for bullets and such. It's going to be frigid tomorrow, rainy the next day and iffy on the weekend. But after that, it just goes to crap so we might head back out on Saturday.

But....beggin' the Cap'ns pardon. If ya doesn't mind too much...might I suggest lookin' at a new ship? Ya sees, Cap'n...I've been a noticin' of late. That this one has been listing a lot lately. Its strange but it first lists to the "right"....then...back to the "left". Appears to me...this ship couldn't hold a course true no matter what the winds.
