I've decided to make some miniature cannons and am turning several mahogany plugs. Im trying to figure a gun design to copy in minature.....got any ideas....something simple with not as much engraving....??

Might I suggest a Civil War 12 pounder cannon? :)

Hopefully ARC will see this....im looking for a bronze naval gun to reproduce in miniture....preferably spanish, Dutch, or French. All I have to do is mark it all out on my cylinders chuck it in the lathe and turn the details...ill use carved appliques for a crest and other details. Trunions will be drilled and through plugged. I can hardly contain myself as the time to pour the first gun approaches.

Wow...that would be cool rusty !! Thats nice and simple too....probably gonna cast a naval gun first though....gonna try to have a large inventory of mahogany plugs to choose from....hope to inventory a large selection of guns both naval and feild pieces. Would be so cool to have a catalog of guns to choose from !!

Roger I asked these guys how much these guns will sell for....WOW you've got to be kidding me !! When they said between 4-8 thousand I almost fainted....immediately I started on some smaller gun plugs for 800-1000 dollar models....well see that sounds high to me. Any way they love me because I horde bronze....I got thousands of pounds of scrap boat props !!

I've seen some go for 100k plus. Some info here https://www.hansenwheel.com/civil-war-cannons

You know....these guys have absolutely been the greatest to me....they've included me in one of the all time great galleon hunts and a multi million dollar treasure hunt !! They always talked about making these cannons with there father and a bunch of other treasure hunters. Now all that equipment and infrastructure is back in there hands and about to come back online. I never thought to much about it because I didn't think they would ever get it going again. Now I'm incredibly fired up to be involved in this and learn this art form. I coul hardly sleep last night and want badly to turn a gun on the lathe today. We have an industrial lathe with a 14 inch over bed capacity. I can turn a 4 foot long gun also !!

Screenshot_20201220-090352_Chrome.jpg this is what ill be working towards...one day I hope to have enough skill and knowledge to throw down an exact working replica of this piece. 36 inch long swivel gun !! Also this is on my bucket list to dig up in the sand underwater one day !! Come hell or high water ill have one !!

I just sold a wood lathe that had any length desired and would turn a 34" item.

Darn it...how much did you sell it for....that would have been awsome for me....ill bet it was heavy and hard to ship though !!

Might be able to sip your rum out of it to....little gunpowder never hurt anyone.

All this talk about cannons got me in the mood :)001.JPG010.JPG005.JPG

Reloading is a blast but I would ditched my digital and use a balance scale. Gravity is much more reliable and more accurate than electricity.

I shot a running rabbit in the bean that flushed when I almost stepped on it yesterday, about a 3 yard head shot, one shot kill. Guy I was kicking brush with was entirely impressed but I just picked up the bunny in a nonchalant manner as if I make head shots on running rabbits like that all the time. I'm real proud of that one. :laughing7:
