How do you like my new Luftwaffe helmet? :)

Lot number 832, made by ET, meant that it was a Single Decal Luftwaffe helmet. After the war, the Czechoslovakians stripped it of paint and decals and painted it black. I restored it to its former glory, and now it looks awesome!

Antiquarian, if you should talk to Pepperj, please say hello from me. 8-)

Will do WD, I haven't text with him since Monday... just giving him some space.

I think, he just... "needs a little coolin off". :laughing7:

Rusty,

A big thumbs up on the restoration job on the helmet.....

It looks like a helmet Schultz would have worn.

Sgt. Schultz wore a Double Decal M35 helmet. The M35's had a separately applied air vent, and a rolled rim. His helmet has both the Luftwaffe eagle, and the Tri-color national decal. After 1940, the M40 helmet was introduced, as well as new regulations for the national colors to be removed from the helmets, and have the eagles or SS runes only. Many soldiers disobeyed the order though, but by 1944 (when Hogans heroes is set) DD M35's were a rarity.

Often times the DD M35's were completely camouflaged with field applied paint, or had the decals scratched off.

In this famous photo from Stalingrad, 1942, the man in the photo, Helmut Wilhelm Schnatz, still has his DD M35. Moments later, Schnatz had his head blown to bits by a Russian sniper.

You could sit in my above ground storm shelter a kill a pickup bed full of deer. They visit me around 2:30 am every morning according to my trail cam.
