The Many Lost Treasures of Mariposa, CA (Photos Added)

According to the USGS Mineral Resource Data System (MRDS) Marble Springs (MRDS #10031064) AU that mine actually did pretty well.

"SUBSTANTIAL HIGH GRADE ORE REMOVED 1866 - 1869 . DURING LAST PERIOD OF PRODUCTION (1950 - 1952) ORE AVERAGED $10.70 AU/TON WITH CONSIDERABLE LEAD AND A LITTLE COPPER & SILVER. MUCH ORE MINED EARLIER RAN MORE THAN $25 AT THE OLD PRICE OF GOLD. INCOMPLETE RECORDS INDICATE TOTAL PRODUCTION OF AT LEAST $200,000."

Unfortunately, according to the USGS Topo map, it's private property (see the center of the map).

I've got my eye on a few areas right around there, though........ 8-)

Regards, Rick
Seeing as how right up into the 20th century, gold was $20.00 oz, then around 1933; $35.00 per oz. (Of course, reduce those figures by $2.00 and $3.00 respectively for gov. refining), it would seem that this was indeed a rich mine, operating at apparently 1 (+/-) oz per ton.

I need a local partner for metal detecting. I'm hoping for someone who is (at least) somewhat retired and can go out with me often. I must be getting a little old because it's no longer fun being the "Lone Wolf". (lol)

Plus, at my age, it makes sense to have someone with me just for safety's sake. If anyone around Coarsegold or Oakhurst is interested pm me. We might not find a lot of gold, but I'll try to keep you laughing. (lol)

Well, this post sure didn't recieve much of a response. Now, I'm starting to wonder if I should finish up the last of "The Book", or just forget about it.

Is anyone out there still interested in recieving a personally autographed copy of an over 200 page book of my exploits??

I'd be interested in a read of that eagle. Your stories are the type that I think shows the greatness of our history. Personal tales of exploits are great

Thank you for your letting me know how how you feel about it Brother!! IF I can come up with the cash to have it published, I guess some would like to have the book. The problem is, from what I've gathered so far is that it would cost about $2,000 to have it published. (A minimum number of books is demanded). But, I haven't given up hope yet, I'm still looking. Several people have suggested an "ebook", and that's all well and good, but personally, I'd rather have a 'hard copy' that I could refer to whenever I wanted. (lol)

Since I've never mentioned it, I'm also considering putting in the book where the ford was that the tax assessor hid the $50 gold slugs near. (Just a thought at this time). If I do, and someone finds them, all I ask for is just one of the slugs. (lol)

Eagel- is the book stored on your computer? If so buy a printer or go to an office store and print copies on demand..i would be interested in a copy, .as for the slugs at the ford, get out there and find them! Im sure many people woyld love to go detecting with you but like myself, live a long ways away...i have made it to page 105 of this thread,,,a great read,,keep up the great work!! Parker

If it was six years down the road I would be on it like white on rice. Wonder if Shep might partner up with you on those slugs???? I hear one of those is worth tremendous money, but the real thrill would be the find

You know I would be out MD with you but I am not retired, work and the family keep me pretty busy. As for the book I prefer hard copy also. I like to have something in my hands that I can turn pages, highlight, bookmark, and so on. Maybe I am just old fashioned. LOL

I for one would even be willing to pay for a copy!

You mentioned that there would be a min. $200 to get it published?
If you needed to order at least 100 copies @ $20 each, I'd be willing to pay $25!

100 x $5 = $500 profit left for you.

OR, Tell us what your break even will be then we can figure some profit!

I might even travel to pick my copy up personally.

If you do want to go the publishing route get orders ahead,, id give 25 for a book also,,,lots of possibilites,,,wonder what an add in the icmj would cost? Drum up some intrest! Give it hell!!!

You mean I'll have to wait for 6 more years for that bucket of KFC?? (lol)

Well, the $50 slugs have been there for 50+ years, I guess they could wait for another 6, but, I don't think my readers would want to wait that long. (lol)

I'll be checking on ICMJ. I know their adds get a lot of exposure. (Plus, they're not terribly expensive.)
