THE INJURY THREAD. Post your wounds here.

Broken Broken Broken

I cut open my right index finger to the bone opening a can of cat food. Now I have literally 2 fingerprints on one finger for as the wound healed, it replicated my fingerprint!

I bet that gave your mom a heart attack and look at all the blood you left for her to clean up.....8-) Be Glad it didn't hit you anywhere else.

Ohhhhhh yea!!! She was freaking out. My dad and I stayed pretty calm, I grabbed a clean towel and wrapped it around my hand and I was actually feeling pretty relieved at the fact that I still had all my fingers. Then my mom starts asking my dad if I'm gonna die, which got me thinking. [emoji38]. I started to panic a little in my mind, thinking I might bleed out waiting for the paramedics. So I snatched my belt off and made a turnaquett on my forearm. It's funny now looking back, because there's no way I would have bled out, it was just one of those things where the wheels in my head started turning around the what ifs. Lol

This one didn't happen while treasure hunting, but I feel some of you might get a kick out of it.

I took a .38 through my left hand. Dumbest thing I've ever done hands down.
Gunsmithing is a hobby of mine, and I make a little bit of side money doing it. I was visiting my parents in Warm Springs, GA a few years ago and my dad wanted me to run thru a few of his rifles. While I'm doing this, my Mom asks me if I can adjust the trigger weight on her S&W snub nose. I took and set it beside the rest of the guns that I had cleared already. When I made my way around to it, without thinking, I picked it up and took the handles off of it. I turn the tension screw a few rounds, then to check the trigger weight, I cock the hammer (my left hand cupped over the barrel) and squeeze, sending a slug right thru my hand.

The worst part about it is that with this revolver, you can actually see the casing rims on the back side of the cylinder when it's loaded. [emoji85][emoji85]. Very stupid of me and a very valuable lesson learned. View attachment 1394778View attachment 1394779View attachment 1394780

On the back side of my hand, the circle spot is a burn mark (different story. Lol). The exit wound is right to the left of my knuckle. Ring finger. Soooo thankful it was just a round nose lead pill and not a hollow point or a wad cutter.

This last picture was taken about 3 weeks after it happened.

Here is a nice little neck shot after my spinal fusion on the 16th.

I can't compete with shooting through the hand - that is the winner.

Idk... That looks pretty rough. What exactly is a spinal fusion?
It's when there is trouble within the spine, and the only way to "fix" it is to use pins and pin one or more together. For example, a fusion of C-5, C-6 and C-7 means those 3 vertebra are locked together as one - no more flexing. Can't bend them, like what is supposed to happen.

Fusions can happen anywhere within the spine, from the tailbone to the upper neck. My wife has a fusion in her neck due to another driver mistaking her car as the road right-of-way. The doc only guaranteed it for 10 years. It's now been over 20! She's not supposed to lift more than 10 or 15 lbs, but that doesn't seem to slow her down. She'll go at it all day, then wonder why she's hurting. Silly woman! :BangHead:

Several members here have fusions. I think BARKER is probably the worst case I've ever heard of!! (no joke) Is probably some mention of all his fusions somewhere in this thread's pages.

Sorry Mr. 200..... I missed your earlier post with the staples in your head.... hardcore my brother.
The neck fusion scar tells a story, for years to come.... thanks for sharing it with us. As I recall, you have quite a passion for speed on those fast bikes.... no doubt most of your injuries happen when you lay those bikes down at the wrong time.
We appreciate your contributions to the thread!

Is that Mom photobombing in the pic?..... Classic.
My brother in law pulled the same stunt about 5 years ago.....blew his thumb off.
He didn't appreciate all the puns and jokes at the time, and then I ran out of smarta$$ things to say, so I've just kinda let it go.

Yea that's mom. Lol. I think going back to work was the worst part. Before, everyone called me Peter Pan, because of how much peanut butter I eat. Now I'm "Peter Pan with One Bad Hand". [emoji85][emoji38]

The funny thing is only 1 knee surgery was from a motorcycle incident on the street. No issues ever on the track, though I have crashed plenty of times.

They fused C6 & C7

Hurt my neck when I was 18 . Ive had on again off again problems. Wake up with stiff neck and then it gets worse, then it peeks and then it fades out over about a weeks time. It always sucks when this happens but I usally suffer through it with a couple ibuprofen and by gritting my teeth. Only happens about three times a year, but last night the most recent event was coming to a peak and I ended up in the emergency room. I was almost paralyzed with pain, could not even move at all without extreme pain, if I swallowed pain would shoot throgh my neck into the base of my skull. The drive to the emergency room was brutal and I got nauseas twice from pain. This is only the second time ive had to go to the hospital for this problem in the last 25 years. Only way to have any relief was to stand up perfectly still. I was exhausted from no sleep for close to 3 days so I gave up and went to emergency room at 3:00 am. Doc said I have a stiff neck he had a technical name like tourquelesons or somthing close to that (big technical name for stiff neck). I now am perched on the couch under the influnce of the largest perkosets ive ever seen along with flexorall, and panzo somthing that is an anti inflammatory. I still cant move my head very much or get up and down very easy but at lest I can swallow without pain. I feel more relaxed than I ever have in my life. I finally fell asleep at 5 am and just woke up at 130 pm ahhhhhhhhhh. At least I dont have to support my head to lift it any more. Might have to have the fusion thing that you guys are talking about. Going to orthopedic surgeon for MRI and evaluation to see what can be done. In the meantime I got net-flix, t-net, flexorall, and perkoset to get me through.

Good luck with the MRI. Over the past 20+ years, the only thing I've been told that seems to make any sense is that somehow the electrical impulses in my brain are mis-firing, which is causing the pain. Seems to keep changing, so is apparently something I'll just have to keep living and dealing with. But I got off of that Vicodin crap. That stuff is nasty!!

so your brain is fried, at least, according to the doctor and your wife?

Sorry to hear of your neck/nerve pain Bart...
As I've posted earlier, you know I can relate....thankfully I'm better than I was, surgery looks like will be avoided, for now.
Good luck my brother, hoping your recovery process is both quick, and inexpensive!

Ill live !! Getting old sucks. Unfortunately I have a list of surgeries and old injuries as long as mph200. I surfed pro for a couple years and I was an avid skate boarder from street to vert ramp (half pipe).commercial fishing has been tuff on the body too. I once spent 3 months in the hospital after a near fatal car crash in the bahamas. 7 broken ribs, broken jaw, broken nose, fractured skull, and splieen damage (they saved it). My body was never the same after that.i also had a bristo procedure on my left shoulder (reattached bicep and large titanium screw and washer holding it all together). Athroscop on right shoulder, torn minicus right knee. To name a few. Ive been hit by a scorpion fish. That almost killed me and ive been hit by a pygmy rattle snake. That almost killed me. There are many other injuries I could list. Ill post up some pics of some of the fishing ones when I find them. Fish hooks, leader and wire cuts, and bites from various creatures. I commercial fish sharks with longline gear for the last 20 years. The point is that I have recovered from everthing with almost 100% mobilty and freedom of range and motion. Im in great shape with very little body fat, I have great cardio and stamina is no problem. I can still free dive to 40 -50 feet. But when you go to sleep and wake up and can barly move from disc damage /pinched nerves its pretty embarrassing. All this macho crap I made it through and I damage my self the worst by just laying down to sleep. How ironic !! Ill be fishing sail fish tomorrow no matter what !!!! I cant believe that sleeping in the wrong position has kept me off the water for the last 2 days. All those injuries add up after time !! Sounds like its time for (My pillow .com).
