Re: The CTH4 hunt will be held September 3,4 & 5th in Caldwell.

Update from the hunt. Ground is not hard. That is a lie. A total complete lie. The ground is impervious to all but the most dedicated who wish to recover whatever treasures lie in the gound. Digging in concrete would be easier I think. :o

Had the pleasure of seeing TC dig both his seated dimes, and another hunter dug a nice seated quarter right beside me while I dug a roached 1950 wheat penny. Now that's some treasure for ya.....

The temperature is a nice balmy 98 degrees with a wind blowing just hard enough to make you think you are in the jet wash of a plane taking off on a runway or maybe a convection oven.

But most importanly everyone seems to be having a good time and I've met some new people that are just loads of fun. It's a good thing I'm used to not finding the good stuff at these hunts because that way I don't dissapoint anyone thinking I am going to dig something awesome and then I don't. The people and the companionship is what makes these hunts for me. It's a shame two of my favorites aren't here (wonder who that might be???? Ros and Nana?) First day of hunting is gone. Two more to go. That gives me two more days to not find anything...... ::) :)

Re: The CTH4 hunt will be held September 3,4 & 5th in Caldwell.

One of the latest finds, by one of our younger members, Matthew. Well done!

Re: The CTH4 hunt will be held September 3,4 & 5th in Caldwell.

WARNING: This post contains a little rant that may or may not be suitable for all audiences. It is not anyone's view or opinion other than my own.

What makes a good group hunt? What makes me want to keep coming to these hunts?

What makes a large group of people from disparate walks of life want to drive for hours and many many miles, to walk out into a field, a dried up creek bed, or some similar detecting site and dig? Is it merely the promise of unseen treasures? Is it the chance to find that magic token hidden in the ground by the huntmaster? Or the chance for a raffled prize? If it is, then I feel sorry for you. I really do.

You see the true treasure of an organized hunt is all around you during the hunt. It's standing and sharing "war" stories about a tough target you recovered, the time you broke your unbreakable digger trying to pry out a cooked memorial cent, arguing over whose detector is bigger and better than the other. It's not about the prizes or the finds, and if it is you should probably examine your outlook on life a little more. Oh sure I want to dig a seated dime, or an awesome button, or even a Civil War Union Officers spur but that's not what it's all about.

It's about a man and his family who opened their hometown, their home and even their hearts for a group of, at the beginning, a group of total strangers. Countless hours go into organizing a hunt and a lot of headache comes along with it. Add to that the challenge of providing a place to hunt that holds the promise of a few good finds and providing food for a small army, and that in and of itself is enough. To the man and his family that hold this hunt and have held it for three previous times, my hat is off to you. I cannot say thank you enough.

I may not leave here with anything in my finds pouch worthy of display or any cash value but I am leaving with at least one treasure I didn't have when I came a new firend or two.

If you have somewhere else to be there's the door. If you don't enjoy hunting with all of us here in Caldwell, there's the door. Just do me a favor and try to remember before you start yelling out instructions to hurry up and move on because you want to leave, most of are spending what precious little time with firends that we can before our busy hectic lives take back over. And we want to be here. In the grand scheme of things you are a guest at this hunt and you should act like a guest who wants to be invited back, not some self-centered unappreciative, loud mouthed annoyance

You said it!

It reminds me just how much I'm missing by not being there. Pictures, folks! And hugs to everybody

Hey! that 101 thingy, sure it's just a cow tag? I'm sure others at the hunt know more about that number than I do, but it would be cool to hear some follow up on it...Are y'all enjoying the change in weather? :hello2: Looks like you got some rain last night.....?

there in spirit
